almost all bows are strung w horse hair (even cheaper ones)....it is cheaper to go w a synthetic material but no one really does.....not sure what the synthetic material is but i'd be surprised if there's any nylon there.

i have two mid priced bows for my bass.

my french bow has white horsehair and my german bow has mostly black w some white mixed in.

german? french? whasat about? ....it refers to the different "frog" (where you hold the bow) and you use a different grip for each.

Rosin is tree sap very sticky. I played violin lessons in junior and high schools 7 years.

I saw these non-horsehair bows on MF: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/orchestr ... rNtt=cello bow&index=3#productDetail specifically for cellos, but don't know why they wouldn't work on other instruments How expensive are the horsehair ones? These ones go for over 200 to over $400.
