I'm looking for a fog machine that is good enough for that special light funnel looking thing effect and lasers. The one's that I've been able to get dissipate too quickly and won't stay in the air long enough to actually do anything. If somebody could at least point me in the right direction, that would be great.

what are you using in it? Water?


I've got one out in the garage. It's been 20 years since I turned it on, but it seems like there were different kinds of liquid you'd use for different kinds of fog.

Like dry ice would make the fog stay on the ground and other kinds of liquids would make it less thick. Oy...it's been so long?

Ewww, I have one of those as well..

You load it with some dry ice and the fluid, wtfever that liquid stuff is.

I know I hated the smell so bad I used exactly 1 time before it got mothballed.

Love mine ... bought a pair of AMERICAN DJ FOG-STORM 700 one for each side of the drummer.
They will haze a closed environment for hours.
The foot switch ( I actually modified the switches so they can be used as foot switches in a simple non permanent fashion ) allows me to " play " them to emphasize parts of songs drum solos ETC.
Or you can get the timer.
I also found purchased four, 110V snap on / off foot-switches that I have all my lights linked into.

If you can't tolerate the smell of the glycol you an buy scent to put into them.
But IMO if the smell is overpowering ... your running too much haze to start with.

That's the kind of effect I'm looking for. As far as what I'm putting into the fog machine, I was using whatever stuff it was that came with it. I'll look into that one. By the way, how long did you have to leave it running to get the smoke to fill that place?

My shop / studio is 30' x 40' rafters at just over 9' no ceiling.
The two Fog Storm 700 units I use ( provided the big garage doors on both ends are closed ) will haze this space with approximately a sixty second burst. Say 3 -5 minutes for it full disperse into an even haze.
There after occasional 10 - 15 second burst will not only maintain the overall haze but really smoke the stage area.

I have the two switches taped together with a piece of pop-cycle stick taped on one end, in place over the thumb switches.
I've been using them like this for months with no problems.
The fact that I have two machines prevents the duty cycle from keeping at least one of them to be functional at all times.
I have two PVC pipe 6" elbow ( 90 degree ) joints, wood screwed to a wood base plate ( spray painted flat black of course ). These set in front of the fog machines to direct the fog up.
I used a 1" spade bit to drill multiple holes in the end of the elbows parallel to the fog stream & floor so that a percentage of the fog is directed onto the floor at our feet and rises from there.
It's simple and effective with LED light effects though, limited or dimmed ambient light is needed for the best overall appearance.
