I am changing the 12ax7 in my marshall avt150 head????

I have to change the 1 12ax7 that is in the gain section of my avt150 head. Has anyone ever done this on a hybrid amp before and what brand of tube will give the most brutal gain?

If you want brutal gain in that thing you should find yourself an NOS "RFT ecc83" if you want searing highs and high gain or "RCA 12ax7 or 12ax7a" or "GE 12ax7a Long Plate" if you want more Bass tones and high gain. I have a hybrid Marshall 8100, and those were the absolute best at pumping crushing gain. It all depends on whether you like it Bassy or Trebly.
