Schaller style for under 5 bucks with free shipping

And these funky things, I have a couple sets and they work really well.
The military actually uses them.

Once they are on though, MAN are they tough to get off!

Thanks for the link JD.
I am using another strap at present (also a gift from our front man, I've not had to buy a strap in years LOL) it is very tight on and off so no problems at this point. I have an almost unnatural fear of altering my Les Paul in any form or fashion. One of the guys just walked past me with a screwdriver in his hand the other day and our drummer caught my hand before I could draw my S&W. (just kidding)
My Goddess fits very snugly in her case. I am concerned that the larger buttons may create a problem here too.

George - I have one of the straps Color Fade posted, use it on my strat all the time, I love it. Works great and you don't have to change a thing, just clip it on. Wish I could get a half dozen more, I want one for every one of my guitars.

never used strap locks, almost never drop a guitar though. Usually the time I'm most likely to lose it is putting it on, after that they tend to stay put pretty well.

To pose the question:

Do you use strap locks ?
What brand / model ?
Pros and cons ?

I've spent a couple hours this evening reading up on them.
Freakin "reviews" can be so misleading and I trust you guys to not steer me wrong. ( now that's scary )
Money is not even a consideration at this point. I have way too much invested in my guitar to drop her.
I want the BEST !

What say ye ??

Hey Sans,

Ill be honest with you, your bold for going on stage without them, its like not zipping up your pants and jumping around a lot. I recommend Dunlop's design, just becuase its a simple and good design. there are many different types out there, but thats just what i use. They have a pull test up to 800 pounds i think. They screw in easy too.

They wont muck up your guitar either (unless you put them in wrong, but thats almost impossible to do). Good luck man!

I do tend to jump around a lot.
I'd best make sure my pants are zipped.

My Planet Waves strap is perfect. No need for a straplock.

I guess I am old school. I never use strap locks. I have even taken them off used guitars I bought and replaced the original button. I just use quality straps and make sure they attach securely. If a strap becomes worn at the attachment point and mounts too easily, it goes in the trash.

Back in the day I used to do mild acrobatics on stage and jump up on the PA stacks during a solo, those days are over. Forty years gigging, maybe 1000+ live shows and never dropped an axe off a strap due to a stock button. YMMV

Thin leather ends (like those used on cloth straps) can open up pretty easy with a heavy guitar on it. It happened more than a few times with my Tele, so I've got Schallers on it. Really only because the guitar itself is so valuble. It means one strap dedicated to that guitar, of course, as none of my other guitars have the strap locks, and never seen any for acoustics with the 1/4" phone plug in the strap button.
Pushing the strap on and off strap buttons will shorten the life of the strap, so for my 'use all the time' guitars, I've taken to leaving the straps on when I put them away.

I recently purchased a very nice strap for my Gibson ES339.

The leather tabs are thick and work quite well.

When they eventually do loosen, I'll try soaking them in hot water and allow then to sun dry.

Should tighten em up a bit.

My "buddy" noticed me installing some strap locks on my new strat plus back in the 90's. I went to the bathroom and as I was coming out he was unselficiously "stress testing" them for me by hurling the guitar in a circle as he spun. Just as I was about to yell at him, the guitar went flying about 12 feet and chipped and dented the guitar in a few spots and knocked the skunk stripe out of the neck. Ever since I don't use them...too many bad thoughts.
