Ok, I was using a setup where I was controlling volume via a DeArmond Volume pedal.. It was touchy at best but I had it worked out so it was plausible.

It has since "sh*t the bed" so to speak.

It's not coming back, so I buried it in the backyard and said a little prayer etc.

The problem is now I need something to control the volume and not sacrifice the tone.

Never had an attenuator, although I just recently played a Tom Sholtz on a 50W Marshall but didn't like the tone.

Someone else has to have had this issue with these no master volume type amps. Maybe there is a good mod>?

What do you do to control the volume?

You get another volume pedal, Weber mass or other attenuator?

I used an Altair PW-5 Power Attenuator...I wish I still had that thing too.
There are also those power output socket adapters that fit your standard socket but have a smaller power output tube in it....

I used a 16 ohm THD Hotplate with mine. Attenuators do squash the tone a little at higher attenuation settings. It sounded pretty good at -8db on down but really started to effect the sound of the amp at -12db and above. If I wanted to use the amp at bedroom levels I set the HP to load and reamped it through my SS poweramp. That's why some people prefer to install a master. If you do, look into the "Rich Mod" version. It's a PPIMV that's said to sound the best in NMV Marshalls. I've heard a lot of clips from guys that have gone that route and it sounds great at all volume levels. Use one of the speaker jacks on the back if you can so you don't have to drill any holes. You always want to try to keep mods reversable if you can so they don't kill the resale value of your amp.

I just googled it and this came up. This one looks a little different because this guy left the volume 2 pot in the chassis. I would leave it in place and put the master in the back instead but whatever works for you.
