I just did my second etch, and admittedly: not my best work.
anywho, just thought I'd ask if you thought it was as bad as I thought it was...

yeah, the pitting sux.
not sure what happened, but I'm learning.
do you think I should toss it and start over or should I just build it anyway?

You know, there are a lot of people whom really dig that distressed look.
Only by assumption and information from your original question did I think it should have been "like New".
Hell I'd finish her off. I know that when I was doing pistol grips and knife scales some of the best looking work in others eyes were mistakes in mine.

Yes.
My favorite wood to work with was from some old Bois' de Arc fence posts.
They were probably in the ground for more than 60 years.
Very pleasing deep yellow wood with brown figure.
Hard as a whore's heart though, difficult to work and the smoke from cutting with bandsaw is toxic.
I still have a patch knife and a powder measure for my flintlock rifle made from this antique wood.

another one I haven't heard... at first I thought " does he mean like pushing the sh*t uphill" but then it dawned on me... oh yeah, pushing instead of pulling... hehe.

Mike - your etching is way cool. The pitting doesn't detract in my eyes, in fact, it may enhance it, giving the thing an "antique" look which goes really well with the image.
Beautiful piece of work, Mike! Don't toss it! Send it to me if you're gonna do that.

thanks a bunch for taking the time to comment.
I started building this one yesterday, and I have to admit -I am liking it more and more, thanks to your and sans' "spin" on it.
I don't know why I tend to lean towards symmetry and cleanliness... I've said it b4 but I don't care for jackson pollacks later stuff at all!
