George, the V3M is a tone monster. The clean channel is crystal clear (if you want it to be) Last night when playing around with it I had it set at 50watts. This morning when I got up I was itching like heck to play it, I kept the kids and wife up last night so I set it at the 22 watt setting thinking I would have to reset the knobs because in my mind turning down changes your tone. Well it didn't change it AT ALL! Then I changed it to the 7 watt setting same tone and ever thing just not as loud. You can literally get any sound you want out of this head even a sound that is very acceptably close to a Dual rectifier. This is the first amp I have ever owned that I find myself not wanting to reach for pedals to make it sound better. The reverb portion of this amp surprised me. You really don't need any pedals! I cannot say enough about this amp accept to say that the Mark IV is going to be collecting a lot of dust. Carvin really builds some awesome very affordable cutting edge amps. They are really going to hurt the Mesa Corp. with there products. If you get the combo V3MC get it with the vintage 30 speaker they give you a choice. The way I have mine set up it is a mini stack with the tone of a full size rig.

Jeff.
Now there you go again.
Dangling that damn carrot in front of a jackass.
That is precisely what I wanted to hear about this amp, from somebody who knows sound.
All I really need is the head.
The Nomad combo is not direct wired to the speaker in the cab, but has a 1/4" speaker cable connection.
( two actually, one output, so it can be linked to a second cab )
I can use the Nomad's speaker, and if issues occur with the V3M head, my back up amp is right there! Swap the power cables swap the speaker input
Wham bam ...
OH my palms are sweating.

At the risk of sounding like a moron, I will throw this atcha... Have you tried a stereo modeler? with that you(which can be purchased Very inexpensively), can clean one side, model the other, use your amp fsw to rub your clean or model either side as you go. Advantage- well I have 3 Channel amp. On off w/ each gives me 6. combine the addition/subtraction of each with just the amp modeler and you have.. well you do the math. then you have the pre-amp modeler switch. Depending on your levels, you can have a clean that gets dirty or the dirty getting clean (or cleaner) depending on if you like the delays, chorus, reverb, and so on, I think you get my drift. Too much feedback?- back off the gain. Touchy, aint it?! Fact is, you got a sytem most guitar officianado's would give their eye teeth for!. Explore! In the words of Boston- Don't look back! If you do as I suggested, That tune will fall at your fingertips! One more thing, Most people thing they gotta use a wah pedal if it's plugged in. If you want a monster sound without tripping over the obvious, plug in your wah, set a level, and forget it! Don"t Give it away with action. You'll be smilin' bigtime by the end of your first Riff.

George I think he is talking about something like a Line Six pod, the lead singer in our band uses I think it is a Boss unit, it is a stereo modeler he runs it thru a Peavy non-tube combo. it gets some pretty good sounds. I just don't like modelers. I have a Johnson Marqui Modeling type amp at home that I practice on and learn songs on. It has a good lead sound and I used it as my main amp from 1999 thru 2005. the rythm sound was just to thin for me. Tubes are the only way to go imo!
AH
Ray uses a LINE6 doohickey through one of their amps.
( I can't believe doohickey did not trip the spell check )
With his new ax and it's active pick ups it sounds pretty good.
The old guitar with the passives was pretty thin tone wise.
Makes for a good combination I think with his more " modern " sound and my tube driven amp.

George, one thing I forgot to say about the V3M when used at the lower wattage you have to turn the volume down! I know that sounds like it is defeating the purpose but lower wattage doesn't necessarily mean lower volume. What the lower wattage settings do is allow you to get the natural tube saturation at lower volumes!

I have been using the V3M for a while now at gigs. I have not lost my infatuation with this thing, in fact everytime I play it my love of this amp head just grows. While loading it this past weekend I was thinking this amp is So light like a purse or lunchbox. I still have to say if you are looking for a HELL of an amp at a reasonable price BUY THIS ONE! Mesa Boogie WHO LOL!

Thanks for the update J.
Still have my eye on one for myself.
Soon as I have some wiggle in the jingle.
We ( Jeanette & I ) are doing well, just the expenditure of her new business as well as family ( and extended family ) expenses are tying up a lot of our income.
I did buy a dandy 8' x 5' cargo trailer for motivating the band.
All I can say about finally having a trailer for our gear is, hell yes.

Cool, glad you like it. I missed this earlier, but I'll take clean and an overdrive pedal any day of the week over dirty and can't clean it up. I'm thinking about going back to my dual amp rig again. Super Reverb cranked is great for a bit of dirty but not clean enough if I want clean, so I'm seriously thinking about lugging around my Peavey MX and Kustomm 2x12 again. Clean at any volume level, I once even played clean leads on top of a 100 watt Marshall full stack cranked to 10. The guy couldn't believe my 1 x 12" and the MX could do it..."man, what the HELL do you have in that amp???" lol...130 watts of Peavey tube MONSTER...
Never played a Carvin but I know they make good equipment, I just hope it hold up to gig use as well as my Peavey and Super Reverb have. I carried the Peavey around for 15 years and it never let me down, without a backup amp. I've used the Super for 10 years with no problems.

Have had zero failures with my Carvin gear until Monday.
One of my condenser mics went out on the drum kit.
A short I think.
Although the guitar wireless I bought never did work with my gear so I went to Boss for that .
( Great piece of equipment so far )
Think I may go Shure for all my mics as I upgrade. I did not have a back up condenser ... but Floyd did.
An old Shure.

Shure can't be beat George, my PE35L is still working perfect after I've hauled it around since about 1988 and it was used and beat up when the guy gave it to me...

Shure microphones are all I have for vocals Beta 87A, Beta 58, SM 58 and 3 SM 57's 2 of them I purchased in 1983 and work just like the day I first got them. Glad to hear you are doing well Pete. Sorry to hear a mic. crapped out on you George, I hope it wasn't during a gig. Congrats on the trailer too. Its nice to load the p.a. in a trailer and leave it there until the next gig. Of coarse you need another smaller p.a. for rehearsal LOL!
Gear Aquisition Syndrome just never ends! Hell Yes!
