Yeah, Deans are touch & go, mostly b/c the co changed hands so frequently over the years, but if you get a good one, it's a great one. Dillion makes some good ones, too, but I haven't seen 'em used in metal. Jacksons are the fave of my old guitar teacher, but kinda pricey, & I personally preferred the sound & feel of his #2 axe, an Ibenez, which was MUCH cheaper.
For me, the perfect metal guitar look would be the Epi or Gibson SG metal model - plain black axe shape in a matte or satin finish with a coffin case. They just look vicious to me.
All those odd-shaped axes don't so a thing for me - the V or the weird stuff BCRich does just look silly next to the ultimate electric guitar style of the SG. That thing looks like you could cut someone's head off with it in an Inquisitor's dungeon. LOL (It's just such a shame that I never played one that could stay in tune for 3 songs!)
