PS: the sd-1 is ONLY good in conjunction with a marshall AND internal distortion, not by itself or with any other amp..

nooooooooooo...by itself it's junk.

My 2 fave non-tube distortion pedals are Boss Metalzone and the old school MXR yellow one. The level of EQ on the Metalzone is great because it actually has a parametric EQ built into 6 knobs. You can get a huge outrageous sound from a smaller amp. I used with an old Gibson Skylark 5 watt practice amp. It sounded like a full 1/2 stack and alot cheaper. Either one you can get guitar center used for $50.

Actually the old MetealZone-MT2 is a semi parametric EQ. At this point and time I really dig the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe and the Wampler Dracarys . Both are great. The Dracarys is really high gain and dirty. The Tumnus is well it's super smooth and creamy and more of an "always on" overdrive.
