How old does a Amp have to be in order to be vintage amp?

Can you take a new amp and put vintage tubes in it?

Like a car, 25 years is considered vintage and yeah you could stick vintage tubes in a newer amp but I don't think it would give you what you want..

I recently re tubed my Carvin Nomad with the original tubes. More as an experiment than a need feeling that my ear for " tone " has improved some since I began this campaign.

Honestly, really not that much difference involved. Mids a little cleaner perhaps, high's a little brighter, still has that Crunch I love without being
" hairy " if you know what I'm getting at.

Wanting to experiment and experience some Marshall gear.
But I think it will wait until Jeanette and I get our shop up and running around the first of the year.

Going to set aside some funds aside for some musical equipment scavenger hunting at estate sales as well.

I think it's like cars... 20year and it's vintage.
I don't think vintage makes as much of a difference as the things that make vintage amps sound so good tho... point to point wiring, overbuilt components, hand tested, and def the tubes.

yes you can put nos tubes in new amps and they are well documented to be more durable, longer lasting, less prone to microphonics... some say they even sound better... I'm sure my nemesis could speak to that more than I could. perhaps he'll chime in.

I went thru a tube craze a couple of years ago with my amps, got a bunch of so called great tubes from e bay and other places, but I never found the holy grail of tone, in my Mesa;s Ive just gone back to Mesa tubes and they sound fine to me.

I noticed the other day that Mesa has a mini Recto for sale now, switchable between 25 and 50 watts, 2 channels, they are pricey but the concept sounds great to me.

checked the vid... amp sounds great clean... love it. metal zones are noisey... but "with great gain comes great high freq noise".

doesn't sound bad as an overdrive but there are a lot of pedals out there that will have a LOT less noise and perhaps more transparency IMO.
the mt does have a nice mid cut/boost. (I guess it's apparent that I have an ingrown hatred towards metal zones!)

I hated that pedal too. That's why I modded it. One of the big changes was swapping the opamp with a OPA2134PA Burr Brown. Its got a lot less gain than the stock one. I don't use it much even now. I use a Route 66 with the Silvertone. Most of the time I just use the compressor side set as a clean boost or the M108 to push the front end for a little light crunch.

right on, the opa2134 is a great chip. works wonders in a ts808 clone.

love the musket... I'm a big fan of big muffs. There's a pedal that has as much as if not more gain than the metal zone... but very low noise.

heard your demo and again... it just sings. very 'spanky'.

I like the Musket a lot. It stacks really well with other pedals too. I do it all the time to come up with different tones. My favorite combination is with the compressor side of my Route 66 set as a clean boost and my M108 EQ. I like that combination with a single pole loaded Strat for nice smooth lead tone.
