I guess mistermikev doesn't visit this site as much anymore. I went ahead and did this mod to my block MXR phase 90. I bought it used several months ago for 50 bucks. I thought if I ruin it i'll just find another LOL. So I took the plunge and the risk. I just completed the mod. it took about 5 minutes. To anyone considering this mod my advise is make sure before you start that you have some wire shears that can work in VERY tight area's as those resistors are very close together. The one thing I haven't liked about this pedal is its harshness. After using the Mesa Mark IV this past weekend it sounded like sh!t when I used the Phase 90.
Snipping that resister smoothed this little puppy right out now it sounds fantastic. :D

hey haley, sorry for the delay...
I just don't come here that much anymore... after all the fighting and what not. Just seems no matter what you do you are gonna fight with someone if you are gonna post online!

yes, I like this mod a lot.

personally, I would just get some solder braid and de-solder the two points on the back (careful not to overheat) and carefully remove the resistor. then replace it with two wires.
get a spst switch and run one wire to one lug, then the resistor to the other lug and the wire to the other end of the resistor.
cut a small 1/4" hole in the chassy... voilla
you can now get "original" or "van halen" depending on how the switch is set.

cheers!

I know what you mean about the arguing. I am trying to keep away from the political and religous threads. Thanks for getting back to me thats a cool idea with the spst switch. :D
