Musician Gear & Tech Discussion

Son set in with us last night with his violin.
Pretty cool.
Issues though.
Not even one of our "loud" songs.
I did not even play my guitar.
And still could not cut through the mix.
Tried a condenser & an SM57.

Any experience / ideas on how to best resolve such issues??

I'm all ears.
