I don't usually have those problems. Perhaps it's learning to use the mic's dynamics, Chris, & using more power in your voice than you're using at present.
One thing you can do, is to sing across the mic, rather than directly into it, to stop the pops on the "p's", all while holding onto the sweet spot. It takes a little practice, but you can master this.
