how many ppl can agree that marilyn manson is pretty much britany spears 4 all these little teeny mall goths u see hangin around the local hottopic? cuz lately i bn lookin at all these bands that these posers listen too and comparing them to mainstream pop groups. ex: cradle of filth=n'sync, linkin park=backstreet boys, and korn=new kids on the block

I dunno. There's a place for it (just not in my CD collection). The young ppl have to have things they can call their own, even if it's stolen stuff & they don't realize it.

The whole goth thing is actually kinda cute. I know that statement would probably make your average goth chick puke, but it's true - the make-up reminds me of the '80's Poison-type fashion rock - the dirty little words are like some of the blues & shock rock from the likes of Alice Cooper & Zappa, to a degree - the death-bent content is pretty funny sometimes, too.

You can show a myriad parallels with this, or any other, genre. Yeah, a lot of it is pure crap, but there are little nuggets of good in there from time to time. Just don't ask ne for any specifics, cuz I don't listen to that sh*t.

I disagree with the Cradle of Filth part. They're not exactly one of my favorite bands, but they're talented.

That is some interesting comparisons, and there is a very valid point there. Commercialism rears it's ugly head. I always think it's funny when something that was intended to be shocking or edgy becomes trendy.

I love the Linkin Park/Backstreet Boys analogy. That's what I've always thought of that POS band, but I remember not too long ago when folks thought they were awesome...LP is pop garbage packaged in black t-shirts.

Of, course, it's just my opinion...uh, no, wait...I'm right.

I don't like Linkin Park either, but some (only some) of their fans get turned onto better music, maybe older music than 2000s.
On another note, their singer used to be in a local band that was 500 times better than Linkin Piss.

i agree poster, most (nearly all) mainstream bands are posers nowadays. New age of music says you dont even need to know music to sell an album, ask any R&B singer.

I never got into Marilyn Manson nor Linkin Park, but as mentioned each generation has had their share. Remember we had KISS, Alice Cooper, David Bowie or Genesis (Peter Gabriel's fox dress or the Slipperman). Okay, so some will argue that Genesis was "pop".

Well, It's all smoke and mirrors anyways for many modern performers. We had a guy come into our class, who use to be apart of a big label, showed us how to make a pop star. He filmed the fact that he took a model who couldn't sing at all. cleaned up her vocals in the computer and voile! Instant singer who had the looks but no singing talent at all.

Remember Milli Vanilli? Not only could they not sing, they actually DIDN'T SING. Everything they did was lip-sink. If you can make a bunch of money by baffling them with bullsh*t then start baffling away. Grab all the money you can before Obama takes it from you. Later...
