Reminds me of a joke (as does everything).
A guitarist dies and goes to Hell. When he gets there, Satan takes him inside where there's a HUGE auditorium (60,000 people) with a giant stage. On the stage is Jimi Hendrix and Jaco Pastorius on one side, and on the other side is the guitarist's dream rig, a stack of Marshalls and the most beautiful Les Paul he's ever seen. He picks up the Les Paul and it sounds and plays like a dream. Not believing this, he asks the others how this could be called Hell. About that time, Karen Carpenter sits down at the drums and says, "And a one, and a two..."

Dream Theater kind of is my dream band.
But supposing I could put anything together:
Drums: Neil Pert
Keys: Jordan Rudess
Guitar 1: John Petrucci
Guitar 2: Douglass Ott
Bass: Geddy Lee
Vocals: Ted Leonard

I would say Transatlantic and OSI are my dream bands come true
(although I would like to see a different lead guitarist: John Petrucci, Steve Rothery, Chris DeGarmo,...)
Transatlantic:
Neal Morse (keyboard/guitar/vocals)
Roine Stolt (guitar/vocals)
Pete Trewavas (bass/vocals)
Mike Portnoy (drums/vocals)
OSI:
Kevin Moore (vocals/keyboard)
Jim Matheos (guitar)
Mike Portnoy (drums)

well I listen to a variety of music as this dream band will demonstrate but it has a idea in mind try to follow it
UBERTIMUS
featuring
les claypool on bass/back up vox
tom morello on guitar
andols herrick on drums
and singing, playing the accordian and whatever else he feels like.......................weird al yankovic
imagine the vocal harmony's and the weird ass guitar work with claypools bass, and the drummer is an all around good metal drummer who doesn't ride the double kick all day and is a folky metal head I guess you could say

Weird Al + Les Claypool = Monty Python's Musical Circus
and that would be bad why?
Now for the amazing metal band
Lead Guitar/sung vocals - Matt Heafy - Trivium
Lead Guitar/screaming - Alexi Laho - Children of Bodom
Bass - John D'Giorgio - Death
Drummer - Chris Addler - Lamb of God
forget about what subgenre metal this is, it'd just be brutal...like dethklok but a legit band

Didn't say it would be bad. It's just the first thing that popped into my head. I imagined Claypool with John Cleese singing... Just conjured it in my mind is all.
hope you get there to enjoy the show, I know I can't even make a metal show just down the road from my house in a few days, got the money but I need to save it. sheesh wish I was like 12 and didn't mind swimming in a canal with water spiders, it's sunset and still 85 fornicating degrees
Okay after much thought, here is my fantasy band:

guitar - Chris DeGarmo (Queensryche)
guitar - Jim Mattheos (Fates Warning)
bass - Pete Trewavas (Marillion) or Dave Hope (Kansas)
keyboard - Kevin Moore (OSI, Dream Theater, Chroma Key)
