Elmore James (They didn't call him "King of the Slide" for nothing.)
Mike Bloomfield was probably the premier slide player of the 60's.
No list of prominent slide players would be complete without the mention of Muddy Waters! Muddy was a crude player, but I still love his sound.

Always loved the singin of a good slider.
I was told it requierd a special tuning.
Anybody know anything about this?

George,
I tune the ol' Mustang up to open E when I'm in a git-fiddling, bottle neck, blues playin mood. Try it, you'll like it.

Yep, sans, & there's a gazillion ways to tune, too. Try an A9 sometime, just flat your D. Interesting stuff.
Pedal steel is a wild instrument, too. Check out the weird tunings on those.

I never got that whole 2 string thingy.
Whywould they be building 5 and 6 string bassses if some one only needs two?

Good Q, sans...I guess it depends on the complexity of the music, & the ability of the player...or perhaps it's just that the guy keeps bustin' strings & gave up & stuck with the last two.

It's because he's so studly that he only needs 2. Dude they are are in my top 5 of all time coolest bands. His song writing speaks for him.

As I've mentioned before, I play a six string bass...I must be compensating for something!
On Topic: Joe Walsh and Duane Allman. Sandman was very novel, which I have a lot of respect for as well.

Andy,
It may well be true that ol' W.C did his share of blues slidin' in his day, but its highly probable that it was on the cornet! (I was under the impression that JimmeyD was lookin' for slide GUITARESTS)
To which I shall add a few more,
Robbie Krieger
Mick Taylor
Robert Johnson

Fair enough lol, but he was "kinda" the first one to make it so popular.
