They're more like prisms breaking light
Into a myriad of hues.
I used to dream in black & white
But now I dream in colors I can't even describe,
'Cause lately when I'm sleeping I go swimming
In her crystal eyes."

Yeah, I actually managed to use the word "myriad" in a song. I have no idea why, but that's the way it got written.

Sorry, emo-haters.

That's really good. I like that.

Since we're posting our own stuff now, I'll post some of mine:

"You're not the knife that cuts deep in fresh wounds
You're not the parasite that steals her life's blood
You're not the blade that's been worn down and used
You're not to blame, you're not to blame"

This is from a demo whose acoustic version my band's going to be posting this Saturday.

Another -

"Red red red I'm seeing red.
I wish that son of a bitch was dead.
If I ever got my hands on him
Would he walk away? Could I commit that sin?
And would she come back to my side?

"Gray gray day
I wish these thoughts would go away.
Gray gray gray gray gray

"Forget about the golden rule.
I must get back my stolen jewel.
I'll show them all that I'm no fool.
Baby, no one leaves until I dismiss school!"

Sick, ain't it? From a song called "Colors" where each verse has a color that describes the sick thought of the jilted lover. Wish I remembered it all, it was my only attempt at a grungy style, but it had a sort of Paul Simon kinda vocal. Weird, but some ppl used to like it.

Reminds me of a Reign of Kindo song, actually, called "Breathe Again." You should check it out.

More of my stuff, planned for our second album:

"For years we tried
To find a meaning to our lives
Though we know there's nothing to be done about it
On January nights
We don't feel strong enough to fight
So are we deemed unfit to lead our lives?"

Phil, that lyric owns. You should definitely try to make into an old punk song. I can hear "red red red" being shouted over distorted strums and palm mutes :P

Here's the lyrics to one of my old tunes that I never played out or recorded. I still kinda like it after several decades.
I was sitting in a beer joint with an old bass player pal, and he commented on something someone said as being that old "Tap room psychology". I immediately seen a song in that phrase!

Taproom Psychology by Howlin'J

Walked into a barroom
Pulled up a stool
Just another rat- race frazzled, mind fatigued fool

Good sounds on the jukebox
A shot and and a beer
think that I could wind down, leave the days tensions here

Chorus

Tap Room psychology's the treatment for me
The bartender is a master though he holds no degree
Tap room psychology, there's no heavy fee
A dollar for the beer and the therapy's free

The man behind the bar
draws golden nectar from his tap
I tell him 'bout my troubles in the great social trap

Takes in all my problems
even though the seem absurd
He listens most intently, though he seldom says a word

chorus - instrumental break - repeat 1st verse- finale on chorus

Some great lyrics from you folks...I'll toss one in here myself (not quite finished, but you'll get the idea:

(If you're) Looking Down

A cold wind blows through the second-hand suit
I purchased at the Goodwill Store
It's seen too many years to provide any comfort
Or a thread of defense
The weathered heel of my boot crushes down
On the cherry of a chain-smoked cigarette
Another wasted moment goes up in smoke
One more decision that I may live to regret

If you're looking down, If you're looking down on me
Guess I have to believe there's a possibility

George, thanks again for the boots, they worked out well
Jerry, I'm going to tell your story to the world
Warren, I wish I'd learn to listen just a little earlier
Sam, You shared my blood, now I've got to get to know you
through your kids

If you're looking down, If you're looking down on me
Guess I have to believe there's a possibility
If you're looking down, I wonder what you see
Wish I knew what you've found
And will it be there for me?

The more I'm down, the less i understand
Once so found, now so lost
I ask no questions,
There's just one more bridge to cross.

One more bridge to cross - Black Label Society
