Don Henly;
there are people in your life who've come and gone
they'll let you down you know they'll hurt your pride
you'd better put it all behind you baby because life goes on
if you keep carring that anger it'll eat you upside
baby I've been tryin to get down to the heart of the matter
but everything changes and my thoughts seem to scatter
but I think it's about foregiveness, foregiveness
even if even if you don't love me anymore.

Philby-LMAO! That's great.

J-Haley, I remember seeing Henley perform that on a show once, and he introduced it by saying "This song took twenty five years to write, and three minutes and twenty-five seconds to sing." (Or something like that). It was kind of a testament to persistance. Once he finally had it right, it only took him one take-he just KNEW the song inside and out.

Great song, and one more reason that I consider Don Henley to be such a major influence for me.

"Dog gotta run
Cat gotta hunt
Bird gotta fly
Man gotta try
While his life keeps rollin' on
Day by day
Rollin' on
In an incredibly average totally miraculous way

"Man go to work
Woman give birth
Child gotta grow
Soon or later man know
That all these lives are rollin' on
Day by day
Rollin' on
In an incredibly average totally miraculous way" - me

That reminds me of one of my favorite Willie Dixon lines.......

"It might be a spoonful of water
save ya from the desert sand
but just one spoon of my .45
save ya from another man"

from "Spoonful" ,of course.

Keep your grimey hands off the guitar
keep your slimy seat off the drums
just sit in the corner (not sure of these words)
and wait until your time comes

Maybe you're a heavy in your home town
Maybe you're the best on the block
but by the time they get ya in New York
Your ax will be in hoc.

from Todd Rundgren's "I'm In The Click"

"Heads of state who ride & wrangle
Who look at your face from more than one angle
Can cut you from their bloated budgets
Like sharpening knives Through chicken McNuggets
Shut the f**k up!" - Cake

"You need to straighten your pasture & suck in your gut.
You need to pull back your shoulders & tighten your butt...

"You need to find some new feathers & buy some new clothes.
Just get rid of the antlers & lighten your load.
Yeah come Comanche Comanche Comanche come out.
If you want to have cities you've got to build roads!" - Cake

"Birds fall from the window ledge above mine
Then they flap their wings at the last second.
I can see their dead weight just dropping like stones
Or small loaves of bread, past my window all the time.
But unless I get up & walk across the room
And peer down below
I don't see their last second curve's sorta horizontal flight" - Cake

"First thing we climb a tree
And maybe then we talk
Or sit silently
And listen to our thoughts
Illusions of someday
Cast in a golden light
No dress rehearsal
This is our life." - Tragically Hip

Yeah, I know - the singer doesn't sing - the guitarist has the worst tones possible - and the trumpet? Wtf? Yet it all works for me, somehow.
