Fans of Megadeth

I am writing an ethnomusicology paper in a college music course, and I am going to compare Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold, specifically, their fan bases, live shows, musical styles, etc. I was wondering if any fans of Megadeth who were around when they first started (so basically I am looking for the elderly fan base of Megadeth) to please contact me. My email is drdziuban@wm.edu. Thanks.

No offense, but that's a weird comparison. I'd expect a MetallicA vs. Megadeth.. a Maiden vs. Priest even.
Not a fan anyway, so I can't help you. I did one about MetallicA, so it is doable :)
Best of luck.

To respond, you're right, thats not the first comparison that comes to peoples' minds. For my paper, the requirement was that you had to see a performance, and talk about that. Since I saw Avenged Sevenfold and Megadeth during the semester, I decided to work with those. But also, when I was at the Megadeth concert, there were a ton of old people, and when I went to the Avenged Sevenfold concert, there were a ton of middle schoolers with their parents. I am trying to figure out why this is. Why don't older people like the newer metal, that is similar to the old, and why don't younger people like the older metal, that is similar to the new?

Avenged Sevenfold is not worthy of your paper. Do Megadeth Vs. Metallica because Mr. Mustaine used to be in Metallica. And after he got booted out, he started up Megadeth in revenge.

And he succeeded in making better music than Metallica  :D

Here's some extra information on my experience with papers....
I did a paper on the history of Heavy Metal back in high school. My teachers hated me for my long hair, offensive devil music t shirts, and how I doodles all over my quizzes. Well they gave me a D on my report because they thought it was very vague and that I should have done a different subject. (This is part of the reason I dropped out of high school later. None of my teachers could accept the fact that I had long greasy hair down to my back and cursed like a sailor and listened to that godawful devil music. They'd ALWAYS give me sh*t for my papers and I've been given detention several times in a day just for being in class. I learned a lot from high school. It's way too conservative and nobody has a sense of humor. f**k high school! Get your GED and study and learn about the world on your own time!)

Saw Megadeath 4x's. Small venues and big, 2 wordz: they jizamm!I like both bands. Growing up during the 80's and doods like Yngwie were just sick live. To see them in person and watch what they do and how they do things is a whole lot diff live than listening to a bunch of mp3's and CD. I never saw Avenged live though, so I cannot judge them. Anywho, both bands r0x0r but I think Megadeath will more than likely stand the test of time between the two.

I saw Megadeth on "Killing is my Business" tour, 2x on "Peace Sells" and also "So far so good so what" with Sanctuary (refuge Denied tour). After that they only came to town playing Lakewood and I refuse to see shows there as the sound is crap and the security are total jack booted thugs.

I like smaller club shows, not into the huge production stuff anymore unless it's Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

I'm old (37) and I much prefer Avenged Sevenfold to Megadeth. Mustaines voice is like a little gurl trying to growl. the singer for Avenged Sevenfold has range power and diversity.

I am a big Deth fan, seen them numerous times since the mid/late 90's... is that early enough for you? I am not a huge Avenged fan either because I feel they are just repeating what I have already heard and the differences they do have detract rather then add to what I already have.

their both great bands.
thing is that A7X has no real rivals like megadeth does.
fan base wise though:

Megadeth's fans are loyal (like all metal fans.) and im not saying they'll just buy their new cd. im saying they would kill/go to jail/roit, you f n name it.

A7X kinda misses the true metal wagon, and are turning more alternitive switch saddens me. As so, A7X is more mainstream pop culture wise compared to megadeth which is metalstream only.

hope that helps, even though its the basics.
