Are you seriously kidding me? Baker is good but there is no way in hell he played metal. He has classic rock written all over his old-timer ass.

obviously no one has looked at children of bodom's drummer, or this discussion would have ended a year ago. that or the drummer from rush, if rush can be fit into metal somehow.

Hey AV! Good to see ya still hangin' out here. Have ya been stabbed by any more die-hard fans wearing your t-shirts in the mosh pit, lately?

I'll never forget that post, man! Too frighteningly funny!

I don't mean to be a Johnny-come-lately but I'll go with Brann Dailor from Mastodon, he gets more sound from a 5 piece kit than anyone mentioned above plus he's original controlled and more disciplined.

LOU CLEMENTE!??!?!?!?! Are you serious? Testament kicked him out because he sucked! They only asked him to play on their tour a few years ago because it was a "reunion" tour with Skolnick back and Clemente as well. He only played a couple of shows.

God only knows who might be considered the "best metal drummer" these days, but back in 68, before anyone even heard of anything called "Heavy Metal", the best heavy metal drummer was probably Paul Whaley of Blue Cheer. Nobody, (Hendrix, and The Who included) rocked harder then the Cheer, trio or otherwise.

Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Gene Hoglan, mike Portnoy, the guy who did several Fates Warning recordings, can't remember his name...the most off time signatures ever.
