I've told people I think David Gilmour is one of the most underated guitarists of all time. That being said I'll say his solo from "Comfortably Numb"

I've seen some people put sweet child o mine, but come on...

No NOVEMBER RAIN?!?!?!

I think the solo Angus Young plays in Ride On is one of the most melodic solos he has ever done. Check it out sometime!

em... em there are just so many

But I think I will have to say the best solo work I have ever seen.. was Steve via playing the solo at the end of the film crossroads... At least I think it was him playing it I know RY Cooder Played guitar on the film and did most of the Maggio kids licks but the end solo when he takes on the devils man (Also and actually steve via) are both played by Steve and the solo on the Telecaster (A guitar I don't particularly like) is amazing the arpeggio's are incredibly fast an nearly made me hang up my axe for good.

But like I said at the start there are just so many talented guitar players out there and of course also no longer out there that its hard to define one particular riff being better than another.

:D

Personally, I love Metal Heart by Dimmu Borgir. If you've never heard it, you definitely should! Also, Phish - Stash was an excellent call.

"Dogs" - Pink Floyd (David Gilmour)
"Lightning Strikes Again" - Dokken (George Lynch)
"Sugar Mice" - Marillion (Steve Rothery)
"Take it on the Run" - REO Speedwagon (Gary Richrath)
"I Don't Believe in Love" - Queensryche (Chris Degarmo)
"Learning to Live" - Dream Theater (John Petrucci)
"Something" - the Beatles (George Harrison)
"Surrender" - Stryper (Oz Fox)
"The Road Goes On" - Fates Warning (Jim Matheos/Frank Aresti)
"Sultans of Swing" - Dire Straits (Mark Knofler)

I know Iron Maiden has some killer solos, but can not think of them at this moment.

And I don't know if we'll ever see a thread on keyboardist, but as for keyboard solos I would say Mark Kelly's "Just for the Record" (Marillion).

I can't believe nobody's said "Firth of Fifth" by Genesis (Steve Hackett).
That has got to be THE best solo EVER!! (in my opinion, anyway)

Also, just about anything by the late Criss Oliva of Savatage, especially "Believe"
