3 piece as in only 3 guys or 3 piece plus a vocalist?
The Doors would be my answer if either apply,
but if it's only 3 guys... I would go with early Rush up to (including) Moving Pictures. Cream, Hendrix
Some of these bands used a fourth on-stage as filler even Rush had keyboards playing while Lee was playing bass at times.

These guys are one of the best. Triumph-Magic Power from the Allied Forces album is one of their best singles.
