Band of Gypsies in one for sure.... Crosby, Stills, and Nash had pleanty of good stuff before Neil young came. Late Doors too.

I just remembered one, UK. They were late 70's and featured Eddie Jobson, John Wetton, Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth (talk about super-groups) but eventually Terry Bozzio replaced Bruford and Holdsworth left leaving just the three. I saw them open for Jethro Tull, Bozzio had his cymbals suspended from the ceiling on ropes.
