Always loved Abbey Road. I only recognized it as a masterpiece when I first copied vinyl to cassette all those years ago. At the end of side 1 Lennon is screaming on "She's So Heavy" - the pounding repetitious guitar riff assaults the senses, you feel the need for relief. The very next thing you hear are the beautiful opening notes of "Here Comes The Sun" - the perfect antidote. You didn't get that when you had to flip the record over (of course it's obvious on CD).
Yeah, the remainder of the 2nd side is phenomenal, but it's that previously concealed transition from anger to beauty that sets it apart as #1. Absolute magic. We will never see the likes of it again I fear.

V's by Mission of Burma is phenomenal as is 2 by Meat Puppets. Violator by Depeche Mode, the first Foo Fighter's album, Grace by Jeff Buckley. All landmarks and all essential for your record collection. In fact, I could survive on these five albums alone.
