Frank Zappa, Magma, Univers Zero, Henry Cow, a bunch of 20th century classical composers, avant-garde jazz

There are hundreds of bands/musicians I really like and picking only one as a big influence is way too difficult.

The one band that had had the biggest impact on me is Voivod.

It may sound worn out but the truth is that Jimi Hendrix was absolutely the impetus for me picking up a guitar and learning how to play. Was jamming on air guitar to Voodoo Child and could juuust about see in my mind's eye where his fingers were going at some points and I just had to try it myself!

Alanis Morissette; I've listened to her music since 1991 and witness her mold and contrast from a teen pop-diva to a post grunge ridden women, to an adult alternative ballad singer. I feel she's experimented so much in her musical ventures, one can't help but learn from her.

As a band, I would have to say, KISS and Queen. Those two bands, at the age of ten changed everything for me and opened my eyes to something new.

Being that I'm a vocalist, I'd have to go with; Warrell Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary),Matthew Barlow (Iced Earth) and the one who taught me how to approach singing, Geoff Tate (Queensryche).

I know...it's more then one, but, whatever...nuff said.

Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore West, SF, Oct 9, 1971. I had listened to many white bands play'in blues before, but never heard anything like this. Sweetest slide I have ever heard to this day. Nobody has ever been able to duplicate his style. Two weeks later, he ran into a truck carrying peaches on his motorcycle...First tape (8 track) I ever bought was Live at the Fillmore East. Needless to say, I've worn out many copies of this and still listen to it today...life isn't fair

Cream, then ELP, then Mahavishnu, RTF, and Ponty. Then the church hymnal. Blew me away.

Pink Floyd, without a doubt. I have a few favorite bands but I’m really only a fan of one. David Gilmour added the rock to Roger Water’s weirdness and the stuff Gilmour plays with that backdrop, is nothing short of pure genius. Neither can pull off the same caliber stuff alone. Gilmour comes close, but Waters goes to far off the beaten path. The lead from “Comforably Numb” is my favorite guitar lead and nothing I have heard in thirty years, has changed that.

It's funny that you said Pink Floyd lalong, because my favorite band, known as Porcupine Tree, has a lot of their influence. Between the Buried and Me is my favorite young band out there and Rush is becoming a big part of me as well.

I'd probably have to say Cream: Disraeli Gears, and then Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow, for starters.both albums had a HUGE impact on my guitar playing as well as the overall "feel" I tend to seek out in a band/playing situation.
