The band that has influenced my playing more than anything is without a doubt, Stone. Roope Latvala's playing in Stone, Dementia and the Latvala Bros has shaped who I am as a guitarist today.
Honorable mentions....Gamma Ray, Rage, Forced Entry

Jon Foreman and Switchfoot. Pre-2005, although I liked 'Stars'.
Mark David Henderson
I have to say Bruce Springsteen.
Great musician, considering his age, how he regularly performs 3 hrs+ night after night is nothing short of phenomenal.
I was lucky to see him in Sunderland last year. Great experience. I wish I could be at a Bruce gig every night.

Guns N' Roses for me.
I was born in late 70s, so I didn't have the luxury of experiencing the gold produced by the likes of Sabbath, Zeppelin, Floyd--basically any non-U.S. rock band.
Sorry, America, but except for Aerosmith and, to an extent, KISS, the rock we produced then was (and is) inarguably horrible compared to the rock Great Britain produced at the same time.

For Me I'd say without a doubt The Beatles with their song-writing and their harmonies. I remember wearing deep grooves in the "Sgt. Peppers" album in the early 70's. I played it over and over. Then I'd say Black Sabbath and then KISS. Kiss is not a group of highly-talented or skilled musicians, but their stage shows and catchy songs hit at just the right time. they were without a doubt the "Masters" of theatrical rock. They were the first to do so many things...The pyros, the blood-spitting, the smoking' guitars...and IMO one of the most underrated singers in R-N-R.
1)Paul McCartney and the Beatles
2) Roger McGuinn and the Byrds
3) Justin Haywood and the Moody Blues
4) Jimmie Spheeris

By far Nevermore.
Primarily Jeff Loomis.
His guitar playing on that album made me go out and go buy my 7-String Guitar and I havent touched my 6 string since.

PaperDog wrote:The Partridge familyHehehe... I watched that during the 70s, ironic that it actually did influence my choice to pursue music.
Donald Fagen and Water Becker (Steely Dan) are my biggest influence more than likely. And countless other bands and artist.
It would be difficult to exaggerate the degree to which we are influenced by those we influence.
