I cut my teeth on 60s/70s prog. A few bands not mentioned that had decent success:

Gentle Giant
Triumvirat
Colosseum
Jeff Beck did some prog-stylings back then.

Then came fusion, and prog just faded away for me. I still listen to Yes occasionally.

Another GG fan! Awesome.

All I want to say is ... you only need look to the alternative and local/amateur scenes for your prog. There are loads more now than in recent times, I suppose it's just not mainstream enough.

Lets be honest, Biffy Clyro are an indie sort of band, and pretty mainstream, but out of any modern bands in that vein they, to me, have the biggest following. (They regularly mess with time signatures, even if they are quite pop now days. That and the concepts say it all for me.)
