Bleeding All Over The Place by Randy Newman, from his musical, Faust:

Martha: Sounds like a real sad song.
Devil: Why don’t you love me like you used to do?
Are you trying to break my heart?
M: Not me, baby
D: I know there’s somethin’ goin’ on with you
M: Un uh
D: Whatever it is, it’s tearin’ me apart
I walk along the river every night
Tryin’ to figure out why we fuss and fight
Is love once again to slip right through my hand?
M: I hope not
D: Baby, Have you been messin’ with another man?
M: Ohhh
D: Ohhhh

I’m bleedin’ all over the place
Bleedin’ all over the place
I don’t mean to be rude
But I’m in a pretty bad mood
Just take a look at my face
M: Yep, you look awful

D: I’m bleedin’ all over the place
Bleedin’ all over
Someone call a doctor
We got a serious case
Of bleedin’ all over the place

Why don’t you love me like you used to do
M: He’s startin’ to repeat himself, now
D: Tell me, what did I do wrong?
Seems like you’re through with me
I wasn’t through with you
My love for you is still very strong
M: Oh, yeah?

D: I wander aimlessly, not knowing what to do
I’ve become quite shameless in my love for you
I’m tryin real hard to understand
Have you been sleeping with another man baby, baby?

I’m bleedin’ all over the place
Bleedin’ all over
Get me a witness
To record my disgrace
How I’ve been dishonored
Deceived and debased
Then someone get me a band-aid
Before I fall on my f*ckin’ face
‘Cause I’m bleedin’ all over the place

I Used To Love Her by Guns & Roses, from the album Lies, Lies, Lies. :wink:

(I Used To Love Her) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBorwKJ_Ibw

used to love her, but I had to kill her (2x) I had to put her Six feet under And I can still hear her complain I used to love her, but I had to kill her (2x) I knew I miss her So I had to keep her She's buried right in my back yard I used to love her, but I had to kill her (2x) She bitched so much She drove me nuts And now I'm happier this way I used to love her, but I had to kill her (2x) I had to put her Six feet under And I can still hear her complain.

But seriously, one of my favorite lyrics to a song is by Otis Redding, I Love You More Than Words Can Say.

My favorite love song is Somebody by Depeche Mode

I want somebody to share
share the rest of my life
share my innermost thoughts
know my intimate details

someone who'd stand by side
and give me support
and in return
she'd get my support

She will listen to me
when I want to speak
about the world we live in
and thoughts in general

Though my views may be wrong
they may even be perverted
she'll hear me out
and won't easily be converted

to my way of thinking
in fact she'll often disagree
but at the end of it all
she will understand me

I want somebody who cares
for me passionately
with every thought
and with every breath

someone who'll help me see things
in a different light
all the things I detest
I will almost like

I don't want to be tied
to anyone's strings
I carefully try to stay clear
of those things

But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
to put their arms around
and kiss me tenderly

Though things like this
make me sick
but in a case like this
I'll get away with it

As a lyricist, these are just so the bawsome awesome to me. I wish I had wrote this.

"When bad times come upon ya
And there's no place you can hide yourself
And you need a major change, someone to talk to
Just a little peace & a break from your hell

"When you're down, low down, and feeling lonely
And nothing's going right - it's like you're under a spell
Like an old book, read long ago, but not forgotten
We'll put it all right back up on the shelf

"Just come and see me, and I'll do all that I can
I'll be your lover, your best friend
I'm your man."

(I'm Your Man, P Montogomery, c 1992 - I sang this once, dressed as Dr Frankenfurter, complete with fishnets)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We used to seem so out of tune
Nothing in common between me & you
There seemed nothing we could do
I walked away but something brought me back to you, & now
"I'm singing harmony with you
I'm looking forward to the things that we can do
I'm walking hand in hand with you
We're singing harmony - I'm singing harmony with you"
(Harmony, P Montgomery, c 2000)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Her eyes aren't really blue. They're more like prisms breaking light
Into a myriad of hues. I used to dream in black & white,
But now I dream in colors I can't even describe,
'Cause lately, when I'm sleeping, I go swimming
In her crystal eyes.

"When the sun shines through her eyes, they're like candles in the night,
Beckoning me to come out & play awhile.
And we could work together. Maybe one day we could try,
'Cause lately, when I'm sleeping, I go swimming
In her crystal eyes."

(Crystal Eyes, P Montgomery, c 1992)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I woke early this morning with the sunshine on my face.
I looked around & saw you. My heart beat a whole new pace.
I don't know what I'm feeling. I don't know if this is love.
I'm more than half believing 'cause what else could it be called?
"I don't know why you came here or what you see in me.
I only hope that you'll stay here & keep seeing what you see.
"This is gonna be a change for the bett-tah
Change for the bett-tah
Yes it's gonna be a change for the bett-tah ah ah ah!"
(Change For The Bett-Tah, PM, c 2000)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Sittin' down to breakfast. My food's got no taste.
Planning my day just seems such a waste.
My morning paper held up like a wall.
I answer in grunts. Don't wanna answer at all.

"'Cause my whole life comes down to hard work & bills,
Pounding migraines, & cheap little thrills.
Oh, I'm so damned bored."

(I'm So Bored, PM, c 2006)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I wish I knew you better. Wish I knew you well.
This mystery you've laid on me is putting me through hell.
I watch out for stormy weather, but the sun keeps shining bright,
But once I let my guard down on you, babe, that's when your lightning strikes,
"And I hope that someday my good side will shine on through.
I hope one day I'll mean something to you."
(Something To You, PM, c 2008)
Ah, Cap, as with any lyrics, you should really hear them in context. When it comes to the time-worn love song, it's going to sound overdone simply because it's the most-written-about subject. There is nothing new to be said, lyrically, about love, be it a physical or emotional or spiritual. They're ALL gonna sound sappy-crappy when read out loud.
I realize how cheesy they look on the page, which is one reason I posted them.
I'm Your Man has a teensy bit o' cleverness to it, if you look at the rhyme scheme. The 2nd & the 8th lines have a perfect rhyme, as does the 4th & 6th. Not your usual sing-songy style, yet it still comes across that way, esp with the uber-cheesy use of such words as "spell," "hell," "shelf" "yourself." This is written in an old Percy Sledge/soul style, & the lyric works well there.
The end of each line in Harmony is all "ooo" sounds, which is rather melancholy to the ear. Works within the context of the piece.
Crystal Eyes has some fine lines, imho, though I was very free with the rhymes.
Change For The Bett-Tah is a spoof on those 60's bubble-gum love songs. Think of it like The Archies' Sugar Sugar, & it works.
I'm So Bored is blues. Cheese works there, especially well, when you consider the theme of the thing. Cliched words & phrases & descriptions = boredom.
Something To You is another blues song. Again, the cheesy rhymes & over-used descriptions work well in that context.
Yeah, really great love song lyrics. :?: :evil: :roll: :idea:
I really loved my turbo tycoon,
When she kissed it made me swoon
But all my feelings are now spent
Because when she disrobed
It revealed a greasy, loose movement.
THE END
I happen to love this song, & yes, it's cheesy as sh*t, but it still moves me.
Pay no attention to the AWFUL video, please. This was the only original recording from the movie I could find...the movie was "The Princess Bride," one of my all-time favorites.
"Shes got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long, I'd probably break down and cry
Oh, sweet child of mine
Oh, sweet love of mine
Shes got eyes of the bluest skies
And if they thought of rain
I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by
Oh, sweet child of mine
Oh, sweet love of mine"
** Followed by the greates rock guitar solo of all time. **
Starting at about the 2:23 mark.
And more good solo after the break down.
Here ya go phil, the slightly chopped/shortened verssion.
Love Minus Zero/No Limit
My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her
In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there’s no success like failure
And that failure’s no success at all
The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge
The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers’ nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she’s like some raven
At my window with a broken wing
Something in the way she moves,
Attracts me like no other lover.
Something in the way she woos me.
I don't want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.
Somewhere in her smile she knows,
That I don't need no other lover.
Something in her style that shows me.
I don't want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.
You're asking me will my love grow,
I don't know, I don't know.
Stick around, and it may show,
But I don't know, I don't know.
Something in the way she knows,
And all I have to do is think of her.
Something in the things she shows me.
I don't want to leave her now.
You know I believe and how.
"IF"
As sappy syrupy as it gets but...
If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die, I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through, Then one by one the stars would all go out, Then you and I would simply fly away.
