My Wife is a huge Nascar fan and wants to know what you think about Kyle Busch's treatment of a custom Les Paul , hand painted trophy of a recent race ?

Loving guitar the way I do, I don't like anybody smashing a perfectly good guitar, but, evidently, he did it for all the right reasons. Here's an excerpt from the story:


Busch capped his victory celebration after the NASCAR Nationwide Series race by grabbing the custom-painted guitar by the neck and slamming it three times into the Victory Lane concrete before tossing it aside.

The rock star antics originated last year when Busch told his team he would smash one of racing's most coveted prizes if he ever won at Nashville.

To its credit, the guitar chipped but never shattered.

"It didn't break according to plan," Busch said. "We'll go back to the shop and cut it up into smooth pieces so everyone on the team can have one. Then I'm going to order two more for me and [crew chief]Jason Ratcliff.

"Everybody's [smashed a guitar] except race car drivers. Those sorry saps take it home in one piece. I'll break it up and share it with the team."

One onlooker who applauded the theatrics was Sam Bass, the artist who paints Nashville's trophy guitars.

"I'll be honest with you, I was stunned when it happened," Bass said. "But when I went to Victory Lane to take a picture with Kyle, he said there was no disrespect to me, the speedway or the sponsors. He just said he was going to give each one of his guys a piece of the trophy. In the spirit of rock and roll and, as someone who appreciates rock and roll, he put on a show."

It was cool when it was 1st done, but now it's just a waste of good quality woods & workmanship & equipment that we, the ppl who use them, can hardly afford.

Why not take a Louis XIV $500,000 desk & beat it up with a sledgehammer, instead? Makes about as much sense to me.

Doesn't make any sense to me. It would have made more sense for him to take a sledgehammer and bust out all the car's windows.

Nah, he can drive the car. Evidently he can't play a guitar.

Pete Townsend smashed equipment originally because he was frustrated. Later it became just all show. Same for Ritchie Blackmore. Diminished both of them in my opinion. Ditto for Hendrix burning and smashing his.

But for no particular reason, when you are not a musician, just for show? No thanks, I'm not impressed. Have it cut up to give your crew parts of it, fine, but doing that just for show, to me is just trying to make a name for yourself. Make your name by being the best, then you don't have to be concerned about showtime.

It's not like we get nasty in every thread that mentions Hendrix or Cobain because they did it frequently...

At least the guy did it for a logical reason. I've never been a fan of destroying a good instrument (although, I'd destroy any Fender Squire product, willingly), but this I can defend.

I'm of the opinion he should E-bay the guitar that is worth something so that who ever wants it and will appreciate will enjoy it, taking the money to pay off the painter and then smashing a reproduction and giving that out to the team...but he's a nascar driver, soooo y'know not much in the brains department...after all they only have to do a few tracks a year with right hand corners

As I raised the guitar high above my head he said G#$*& thats no way to treat an expensive musical instrument! LOL. That was part of a story from a song back in the 70's about how the story teller was going to smash his guitar on his pops as he lay sleeping. I can't remember the name of the song but maybe yous guy's can.

I am not sure But I think they are going to make another left turn.
It's a shame and a sham. Pro sports have become so blatently commercial. I could care less anymore what they do.
