Yesterday I spent the better part of the day unloading and re-loading a lot of equipment because the 2 shows we had back to back were different situations (indoor/ outdoor). It basically took me all day to get ready for our show with Pati.

Showed up, played our set, everything was fine. Take a break Pati is next.

Before Pati's set I was told a drummer for a band called Bonafide was going to sit in on a song. Ok.. Cool. Whatever.

2-songs into Pati's set, the drummer get's on stage.. Then Pati says he wants the Bass player from Bonafide to play too.. So our Bass player unplugs and lets the guy plug in. Then Pati turns to ma and says "Can this guy play your guitar??"

So I'm like.. Ok. Whatever. I guess this is something that was discussed that nobody told me about. So I hand over my guitar to the Bonafide guitar player..

They played the whole set..

So me, the Bass player and our drummer watched from the sidelines while this other band played our gear for Pati's set. It was so odd, I didn't know really how to feel. Should I be pissed? Should I just accept it? Bonafide did write the music for one of Pati's CDs. But they didn't even play those songs at all. They played the same songs we worked on all week.

Needless to say the 3 of us were burnt. It made us feel like s**t. We worked all freaking week on Pati's set ONLY, lugged our gear down there, set it up, to have Bonafide play the set??? Are we Bonafide's freaking Roadies now??

I'm still not sure what the hell happened here. After the set, Bonafide walks off and leaves. Pati leaves. And there we are to tear down and load the equipment again. Is this what Pati wanted?? Did Bonafide hijack the show?? I'm still not sure what the f**k just happened.

It was just f**king weird, and disrespectful to the 3 of us.

I still got paid. But what the f**k??

It doesn't exactly make me want to give a s**t about playing guitar for Pati. At the moment. Right now. I feel like, f**k Pati. Next gig he wants to play down here he can just leave me out of it. Call up Bonafide (who won't do it by the way). Bonafide don't want to be Pati's band, or else they already would be his backing band. But they sure did hijack our s**t yesterday.

What sucks is, VIZZUN entertainment has Pati signed on their label. And we love helping them out. Shawn is always good to us. We really don't want to make him feel caught in the middle.
If we stop playing for Pati, we'd be hurting the guy who helps us the most right now. VIZZUN has ties with Pati, Bonafide, and us.

Well.. Fine. Put Bonafide on the bill and let them lug their own gear and play their own set like the rest of us. And if they want to play Pati's set, let us know in advance so we don't have to practice his songs all freaking week. I'm sure Shawn had no idea any of this was going to happen though.

Am I overreacting? Should I just blow this off?? I don't know.. Wasn't cool at all. It looked like we'd just got permanently replaced right in front of a crowd. Like we weren't good enough to be playing his songs. Like the 3 of us were just douches who didn't belong up there. We should just step back and watch how it's done. And by the way they train-wrecked the endings of every song. It wasn't a step up at all.

Weird, weird, show man.

That would piss me off, for sure. It may be only a one-time deal, though.

Speak to Pati about it when you get the chance, but try not to overreact when you do.

He prolly thinks you don't care since you aren't in a permanent band together & you got paid & all.

I would tell him not to ask me to turn over my axe ever again, though. If he wants other ppl to play, make sure they're using their own guitars. No one uses my guitar but me, & that's that. Sorry 'boutcher luck, but this ain't no open mic & I use this stuff to make my living, bud.

You know, I can understand a song or 2. But at some point Pati needed to have the balls to just say " Bonafide everyone!' Yaaaay!! And tell them to exit the stage. But he just let it go on and on..

I'm sure just like all front men, Pati got caught up in the moment and didn't even think one way or another about what was going on in your minds. As long as he had a backing band going, he was in his element. That's not good or bad on his part. I think if you just spoke to him and let him know that it left ya'll feeling like it did, that he would think about it if anything else like this came along and do the right thing next time. Maybe next time VIZZUN calls you about doing another gig like this, jokingly say, "Ok, but if our spot gets hijacked again, you gotta pay double." I think the real a$$holes in this whole ordeal would be Bonafide. If my band were in their place, we would have done a few numbers then said it was time for the real band to finish up so we could get out and party with the people, and thank you over the PA for letting us get up there.

 Man I'd told that cack sacker to go get his own axe!
Sounds like premeditated bullshit to me bro.
Dont feel bad about putting your foot down.
(or up someones butt)
Then again you been getting to play some cool gigs in front of some big crowds. and you know sh*t happens.
I would probably have myself a big fit.
Tell em I anit your stinking rodie blaa blaa blaa.

A better man would just take the good with the bad and move on.

What your going to do is what counts!

I know it seems that way Sans. Like you can just say, "screw you, you're not playing my guitar." But I would have REALLY appeared to be an asshole if I'd said no at that point. VIZZUN and RUFF were both there. You have to keep in mind, I thought it was only going to be a song or 2. But after the 6th or 7th, starting to get pissed.

The bigger problem here is that Pati doesn't have a band really. It's kind of a strange situation. Bonafide wrote the music on his CD, Pati wrote and sings the lyrics, HaleAmano is the live band. I'm starting to think there's too many Chiefs involved, which is a bad situation when it comes to music.

By the way, I think Ratsass is right. Bonafide hijacked the show, and it was bulls**t. They would NEVER allow that to happen at one of their gigs. So who are they to do it to someone else?

But that also brings to question why PATI allowed it to happen. If those guys wanted to play during a HaleAmano set, they would have lasted 2-songs and the show wouldn't have continued until they were thanked and exited the stage. Not to mention, they would have to co-exist with the current members who are already on stage.

Obviously Pati doesn't have the balls to control his own set. He didn't have our backs like we've had his over the past year. This is a no brainer. Thanks for your guest appearance, now let my real live band back on. The people who have actually spent their time to be my live act, and who I wouldn't be playing here live if it wasn't for them.

I understand that the 3 acts need to band together as representatives for VIZZUN. But it needs to be more organized. That was a freaking unprofessional mess of a show. I personally would like for Bonafide to be Bonafide, Pati to be Pati, and HaleAmano to be HaleAmano. And the equation that created this mess is Pati not having his own band.

My feelings are, if Bonafide wants to be Pati's recording and live band, sweet man.. Cool s**t. All power to it. I'm looking to have my own career without having to cater to any band other than the one I'm in.

Sometimes you have to be an asshole. After a couple of songs I would have gone back on stage and said something semi-witty like "may I cut in?" and then of course talked the intruders up. Getting paid does not make this crap right.

I would talk to Patti in a one on one situation when you are in control of your emotions and tell him your concerns in a firm but non confrontational tone and tell him if you want Bonafied to play you need to let us know because I will not do that again.

Yea, cooler heads will prevail. J is right. Talk to Patti in a professional manner. Something like: Hey man, WTF do you think your doing!

 For me I most always have to give stuff like this some time to settle or simmer whichever the case may be.

I am sure you will make the right decisions shredd6.
Consider both where you have been and where you want to be.

This is why no one plays my gear. I don't care how much of an ass I look like - it's my gear.

Obviously you have to talk to Pati and get to the bottom of this. He has to know how you feel so that he never lets that happen again. He's got to be made aware of the situation, because lets be real - not everyone has great awareness.

That situation is messed up man. You and the other guys were shafted. What transpired was very unprofessional and just flat out scandalous. Regardless of getting paid or not, you can't help to be mad as anything could had happened (gear breaking). Tell your front man/woman how you don't ever want that to happen again and move on.

I dont know if Ive ever had that happen before.

One time we got up and played on a lessor bands set and the people went so ballistic that the other band let us go on and play a whole set. We hung around for their last set and got up and sang backup for them.

#1 You did get paid

#2 Your feelings are hurt

I guess the thing to do would be to get together with all involved and ask some questions. From the business side your management will say you got paid and Im assuming that Bonafide didnt.

I think your band should just make it known that you would rather them play on their own equipment in the future.

Thats a tough one, cause I dont know how everyone stacks up.

I guess you could ask for double pay if they are goig to take over?

I would say get away from it for a day or two and get a little perspective on the situation. If you raise hell do you lose your job? Just a question?

You know, when I read reading his initial post, that's where I thought the story was going. I was certain it was going to end with a broken guitar...

What will probably happen is we'll talk about it one more time as a band, and let Ryan decide how he wants to handle it. I wouldn't want to talk to Pati about it anyway to be honest. Ryan and Pati are closer in this relationship.

I'm certainly not afraid of "losing my job". This band wouldn't kick me out for being mad about things. Ever since I've been in this band, I've let it be known that I just want to focus on 100% HaleAmano. What I do for Pati is a favor for Pati and VIZZUN. I could care less about the money. I would never ask VIZZUN for more money. VIZZUN is really good to us and none of it had anything to do with Shawn. VIZZION and our relationship is the only reason I agree to do it.

We'll just have a band meeting, and it will be done with. But I do want to bring up in the meeting that the time needs to come when HaleAmano focuses 100% on ourselves and nobody else. Working for someone else just pushes our own goals backward. Every time the time comes to write new music, guess what, we gotta work on Pati's set.

This is a reason why I myself never liked to go to open jams or gigs where I have to use other people's equipment. I get so nervous about messing up the player's rack settings or accidental damage to the person's instrument. No matter how good I play the set, I constantly have an uneasy feeling about the sound and guitar..... It's just not my equipment that I'm used to.

Anyway, the bottom line is, If musicians get shafted like the story above in Chicago.... you better believe that the news will travel around fast. It's bad to be tagged as unprofessional or scandalous.
