Hey all,

I need sort of a favor... I have been sending out audition invites to like 30 vocalists so far... and I have like 5 that said they will make an attempt... during the process, many have said "thanks but this isn't my type of music" and that had me puzzled since the profiles said it should have been (in my mind)... then a young lady responded yesterday and classified my music in a genre that was totally unexpected....)

Here is where you guys come in... I would like to know if any of you would be willing to listen to a few of my tunes, then reply to this post and "catigorize" what you hear.... Is it, pop, alternative, Metal, classic rock, rock, hard rock, progressive... or even just total crap.... of course the genre I think I fall into actually is not a choice on here... but depending on what you guys say... I could be wrong...:)

I want to make sure I'm not fooling myself about what genre of music I'm really playing....:)

Thanks in advance guys

X!

Max, I did a quick listen to your stuff. Im impressed theres some good stuff in there. Just looking in I hear Rob Zombie for some reason. In your guitar riffs I hear a lot of hair band 80s type stuff. From your age that makes sense and one of the songs reminded me of Maiden.

I dont think you really fit into the newest Metal, I would classify you as Classic Hard Rock, I dont know if thats a category or not.

Hey nice work, thanks for sharing. When I get time I will go back and give them all a full listen, but from a brief listen sounds good to me. Good Luck finding a vocalist or whatever it is your after.

I agree with jw123 on genre - more of a hard rock sound than a metal sound, and yeah, it does have a classic feel to it!

good stuff!

I dunno - I could hear the ultra high voices from the '80's on these, or the growly newer stuff, as far as the backing music goes, on some of the songs. Mostly, it sounds like older metal, though. A bit melodramatic for me, but that was popular for awhile. I think audiences may have moved away from it in many areas.

I am no expert on this kinda stuff, but you play it well.

Your influences come through in your music.

Good mixes & productions, but I wouldn't say they're in any "modern style." You had a pretty good singer. It's a shame you hafta replace her.

OMG... thanks guys... it seems I have been laboring under delusions...:) I really never thought that the word "classic rock" was going to blast through like that....:)

"old metal"..... I am sooo dead... I admit I taylored the songs in an attempt to fit the vocals.. but I thought for sure I was hiding my age... lol what a putz....:)

Can I ask you guys... is it the riffs? Or the sound of the guitars? I am playing some stuff in a way I would not have 20 years ago... so I'm curious for sure...:)

Oh and for the 2 glam guys.... that was cruel... that makes me want to dunk my head in the toilet 3 times and bring it up twice....:(

For sure its no wonder the younger peeps have been telling me to pound sand.... lol It sounds like I have some work to do!

Thanks again guys...

X!

Madmax the two glam guys are flamers.

They know it and every one on here knows it.

Some of the riffs hit me, cause Im the same age as you. When I write material in a hard rocking form it tends to come out sounding a lot like some of your stuff.

My son has been turning me on to all the new metal and the difference to me is the guitars are more percussive in nature not so much a guitar riff but tied to the drums more. Does that make sense?

I struggle with the same thing trying to sound more current than I am.

I wouldnt worry about it. Just do what your good at. Youve got some really good riffs in there, nothing to be ashamed of.

Keep Rockin Man

the first song is like a mix of Budgie & Megadeath. sounds great. 15 yr.s ago it would've been labeled as metal. now probably progressive rock.

Reminds me of: L.A. Guns & Bullet Boys. Definitely feel some Judas Priest influence; some Queensryche influence (in particular "Walls of Errico").

So yeah, glam rock from the late 80's. I wouldn't take that as an insult though; I liked those bands growing up. I didn't have a problem with glam rock until the 3rd generation or so (Slaughter is when it really started to go downhill).

It's not just the guitar riffs. It's the whole package. It's the vocal melodies for sure (longer drawn out notes). The guitar riffs are a throwback; jw123 is right - modern guitars are a bit more percussive. But even then, it's just the sound - it sounds like a Marshall to me. And a Marshall is soooooo 80's (even if it's not a Marshall, that's what it sounds like, and that's all that counts).

All this genre' stuff just confuses the issue IMO.
Good music in one mans ear is garbage in anothers.
I am not sure why one must "pick" a genre'.

I guess thats easy to say for a GODROCKER

I would say play it if you like it and allow your fan base to give you a lable, if you must have one. I get asked all the time what kind of music our band plays. The simplest answer is Christian Rock. If they want to sub-genre' us after the show. So be it.

Well, I think we may have found it..:) it IS a marshall.... until right now, I never realized that might be a problem... sounds like I need to get to a GC or SA and have them youngins help me get a newer sound...

But I love my marshall... *sob* hes my buddy!! Then again, I could always do the ego rock dude thing... and say "F" that... but I actually like some of the new stuff....:)

Thanks guys... it's been an eye opener for sure.

I agree with JW and Chris; it is definitely hard rock with a classic vibe. I'm digging The Stranger! I like the progressive feel of that one. Reminds me of Dream Theater's stuff on the Metropolis Pt 2 album with the feel. :) Good work brotha!!
