I had a new song in my head today. I was singing out loud and making up the verse and chorus as I was driving down I 20. I was banging my head and doing the one hand air guitar.
Now it's freaking gone. Dang Dang Dang.
I am going to keep my H4 in my nursing bag from now on. ARRRGGHH!!
What do you guys do when this happens. Is there any way to retrieve?
DANG !!

Sometimes it comes back. I usually try to think of what it is that got me into thinking of the song. That helps, but not all the time. Since losing song ideas kept happening to me though, I always have a pen and paper around to notate whatever I come up with at random times.

Too bad we can't set "restore points" in our heads like we can on our computers. I have so many lost song ideas rattling around in my head , I could fill up a 200G hard drive.

Retrieve? sh*t, man! I forget more stuff than I recall. I've been having all these flashes of stuff in my headbone, too, lately. Biggest problem I have is they keep changing before I can truly grasp what I started with. I think whatever I work on next is gonna have, like, 15-20 different movements in it...& all I can do when I finally GET to my axe is say "CRAP!" cuz I forgot it all, already. Lent my lil mini-recorder to a friend & haven't gotten it back yet...grrrrr

Yeah, I had a really good tune in my head in the shower one time and guess what? It disappeared by the time I got around to remembering to think about it in the recording studio room .. it's a pisser 4 sure. I did get a solid-state voice recorder though that I've put a few hums on, which helps some (if I can decode them-lol) ..

that was YOU on the road?! haha. jk.
Record it, and back it up regularly!
I picked up one of those 20 dollar digital recorders for the same reason. Alas, recorded a great idea for a song and wrote lyrics for it over the course of 2 weeks. Walked out of work one day with the pad in hand. On the way home, got sick as a dawg had to pull over at a McDonalds. By the time I got home, notepad and recorder MIA. Did I leave it at work? Leave it at McDonalds? I was so out of it, I have no idea. I feel your pain.
Fortunately I remembered some of the musical ideas, and I emailed a friend a copy of the first round of lyrics before the loss, so not everything was gone, but I have to re-write what I lost and the motivation you get when you have a fresh new idea is long gone... ug.
I feel your pain. Record it. Back it up. Don't get sick on the road.

I used to have a little creative zen mp3 player that came with voice recording, and the quality was actually pretty decent, but i banged that thing around so much, it just conked out on me, nowadays i just carry a mobile recording studio with me at all times, lol, but its probably more trouble than it worth.

The ones that drive me crazy are the ones I dream about and cant remember. I bet I've written 100 top ten hits in my sleep . Oops !
The rest I just try and remember what I liked about it, and work on it from there.
Its another day in Paradise !!!

Hey holy roller that’s the best song you ever posted, I particularly enjoyed the break from the intro to the last beat, it’s way better than anything you’ve posted so far, good job keep them coming.

Thanks for the post guys. I have written a few on scrap paper. And that has worked when all I had was lyical content and a "feel".
But this time I had the music all in my head too. And poof.
Well as soon as I can pick up some batteries for the Zoom, I am going to carry it with me when I travel. Doing home health now and spend a lot of time on the road.

Sans, just use your cell phone. Call your voicemail then select send message. Then enter your own phone # and sing the idea. Writing down the lyrics never works for me. You lose so many phrasing, tempo, and key nuances. Sorry bro, I definitely feel your pain. Sometimes they come back. Be ready!! And call yourself! If you can't then call your lady's number and when she answers tell her to hang up and not answer when you call back.

Eddie Money was sitting on a toilet in a public restroom one day and started thinking of a song and wrote the lyrics down on toilet paper (true story). Turned out to be one of his biggest hits. I suggest keeping a roll of toilet paper handy just in case. You never know when it'll bring out the best in you...

That should be an easy one Paul. She never answers the dang thing when I call anyway.
