Goose had a gig booked in downtown Raleigh, NC last night at a venue called The Pour House. I showed up first, Goose arrived shortly thereafter, and the rest of the band never showed up... It made me mad that the rest of the HIRED musicians, like myself, were so unorganized that they could not keep up with show times and dates.

Anyway, even though Goose and I put on a good show by ourselves, this was only the beginning of it... Goose's guitar was being worked on by a tech who was supposed to come to the show. While we're waiting on the tech to arrive with Goose's acoustic, we set up a small 200w PA (Gemini 15" 2-way loudspeakers and Behinger 4-channel powered mixer), and do a soundcheck with vocals and bass. I was running direct into this system. So everything is set up and sounding good, and the tech still hasn't shown up yet... Goose leaves the venue to go BUY a guitar for the show, planning to return it the next day. Luckily, the opening act shows up and agrees to let Goose use his guitar for the show, considering the circumstances. Goose drives back to the venue, we soundcheck with vocal, guitar, and bass, and the mix and volume are good for the room.

9:00pm roles around, and the opener gets on stage to a nearly empty room! Bearing in mind that this place is 5 minutes from NC State University, its a Monday night, and its exam time, I wasn't expecting a crowd to be there anyway. The opening guy did a decent job, doing funky acoustic and vocal stuff. Then, Goose and I take the stage. The 8 or so people that were there loved it! They were making comments to the effect of wanting to hear the whole band if just he and I sounded that good. It made both of us feel pretty good to hear that! :) All in all, we had fun playing music -- that's the important thing!! :D

There is a photo from the show on my profile if you guys want to check it out. We have a big show coming up on May 23 at Greene Street Club in downtown Greensboro. We are expecting a really good turnout for that show, and it is supposed to be taped as well.

Are you gonna be using dependable musicians for the upcoming gig?

Good to hear you had a good one in spite of the absence of the rest of the band.

I still don't know who Goose is, though...

Goose is the guy with the guitar! HELLO!!

I have to commend you and the Goose for your "the show must go on"
attitude.

Nice pic too. But you could have tried to post it with your story (five or six times like I do)

J, thanks for the comment. I'm glad that you like the pic. :)

Philby, as far as I know (because I'm just a hired gun myself), Goose has some dependable cats lined up for the upcoming gig on 05/23/09. (thank God :D) I just hate it for Goose because at the end of the day, he's the one that got screwed. (venting) His show and his music were not presented the way he wanted because of the carelessness of others. Not to bad-mouth the guys that were supposed to come last night, but I don't understand why they didn't show for the gig when they agreed to be there with 3-4 weeks notice. You'd think that one would not set up other sessions or gigs, or whatever the case was; I honestly don't know. After all, THEY agreed to play the gig. Not only for because they were going to get paid for the gig, but now their own professional reputation is tarnished in the eyes of a client. I'll guarantee that Goose will call me to play bass on any of his upcoming stuff though, because I've shown up. I guess different people have different work ethics.

Anyway though, we did have a good time, and the people that were there told Goose and me they enjoyed the music. That's the most important thing to take from the gig anyway, isn't it? Forget flaky musicians -- the music was enjoyed by people. That's why we all do this, right?!?! It's not for the money, or the fame, or the glory (though it would be nice :D). It's about sharing our music with others.

Speaking of sharing music, Philby, I'm working on getting something in writing giving me permission to use his music as a demo so that I can put it up on my profile. Again, being the hired gun, I don't have the legal right to just post it up (and almost got in a damn lot of trouble when I had some music up before from a different artist). Once I have that, you can hear him on Bandmix. In the meantime, you can hear Goose on his MySpace Music page: www.myspace.com/johngoose.

Hey Sans. It is what it is, right brother?!?! :) We were already there, so why not play.

How do you post a pic on the forum? I'm new at the whole forum thing, and I don't know how to attach a picture.

-edit-
We once had a singer who didnt show up to a studio session because he had a 'date'.. mm - we were slightly po'd. The bass player had to do the vocals.
I'll see if I can find where i posted pix instructions earlier today.

ok- here it is:

to post a pic here you have to have a photobucket (etc) account, add the pic there, right click on it, copy "properties" (the url) then come over here to bandmix, click the"IMG" button on the top , right click paste, then click the IMG button again.

LOL, your asking the wrong guy as I screw it up about 1/2 the time.

But it works kinda like this:
(1) you need an account like Photobucket first to store / convert the photo file (photobucket can be a free service)
(2) Use the Photobucket (or other such) service to browse and upload your pictures from your computer files.
(3) Copy the URL that the PB or other service provides for you photo.
(for some reason I find it works better for me if I log off of the PB site after the upload then log back in)
(4) I am not so sure about this step, this is where I get into trouble.
I think you have to click ^above whereit says Img then past and click Img again.
Anyway there probably is something on it in the Bandmix FAQ section.
If all else fails summon the mothership. The Bandmix staff have been very helpfull to me.
