Do you need a licnese to do instrument repair?
or give lessons? I used to dread the thought of doing anything like that, but as time goes on it gets harder for me to put down my bass each time.
I love music so much i wanna marry it.

What? And ruin a perfectly good relationship?
I don't believe you have to have a license for those things, but if you could become say a "Licensed" Fender repairman or Peavey or any name brand, it would probably get you more business.

Most areas will want you to have a simple biz license, &, if you decide to be perfectly legal about it all, you'll need a tax # as well. Many ppl do this as a cash biz to avoid all of this, but you need to be careful about making too much or putting too much in the bank...gov't gets nosey about that sorta thing.
There are classes that big co's charge for to become a certified luthier for their particular brands. Write them to get info.

Philby's got it right. Also, with a tax #, you can get great discounts on parts, supplies, tools, and equipment.

Even he whom hates the tax thinks a tax # is a must. You wont make a dime if all your parts are purchased at retail.
It's true in gunsmithing I am sure it's the same as a luthier.
