so i did something i always wanted to do today and got kicked off the premises of a mall doing it. i set up my hard case on the ground and pulled out my acoustic and started playing in front of the mall. after about and hour i got escorted from the mall for "disturbing the customers" which i'm pretty sure i didn't cause they were filling my case with money.

shoot around here if you did that you'd probably get nothing and arrested in 15 minutes, though I've heard the next city south your good as long as you don't 'make to much money in one place' but I'm a bassist who can't sing so I can't try it and find out

Yeah, you'd prolly get the same treatment here, unless you added a little sign that said "Homeless Vet Please Help." Some ppl around here are suckers for that sh*t.

theres a dude up here who panhandles saying, he's broke hungry and miles from home, I saw him walk up with his shyt, he's up here every summer too...hmmm

There's panhandlers all over Kansas City. I think they have an organized system. There never seems to be any fights over who gets the best street corner to panhandle from. It's probably a corporation or something. Anyway, you're not really panhandling since you're providing a service to the public (entertaining which I hope you ARE entertaining and not noise pollution!). Hell we aren't making any money gigging so actually if you can make at least $50 WITHOUT lugging any PA equipment then you're better off. The authorities need to understand that people are really suffering economically and what you're doing isn't harming anybody. It's better than peddling illegal drugs...

I play my aged African drum on the deck each summer. Never got a penny.

I've played on the street in New Oleans and in San Francisco. made around $100 a day in Nawlans... lucky to get $10 in Frisco. who'd a thunk it? only making $10 in a city of the wealthy.
You'll have a hard time making $700 a week gigging in Nawlans.
I'll play on the street, in the bathroom or anywhere else they'll listen, much less pay!

I've always wanted to do it just to "get back to the roots", sorta experience it, but yeah... they fine you for that in Philly...

And it sucks!

I remember when I was younger, walking down South street, there were street performers of all kinds on nearly every block, and in the alleys.. The police chased them all off, and now the street doesn't have any flavor to it...
