Musician Forum - Band Discussion Board - BandMix

I'm playing an open mic night tonight to look for some musicians to join me on my side project! =] Any pointers other than showcasing myself and talking to as many other musicians as I can?

I dont have anny real advice other than jammmmm your a********s

Don't rely on others to remember your name and number.
Print up a card (or paper) with contact info on it.
Bring a pad and pencil.
Take names and numbers and play dates.

And always approach people, don't wait for them to come to you. SHake their hand, tell them they did a great job, lie if you have to , but RhythmMan hit the nail on the head - be prepared, make up some mock business cards if you need to.. just have something, even if it's just your name and # scrawled onto a cutout piece of paper.

I would add-keep expectations low. I often find those jams to be real cliquey...tough to break in on the first visit.

Easy on the beer....be cool and casual, but friendly like everyone else said. You need to be a diplomat as much as a solid player.

You live near me...where is there an open mic on a Fri nite?

I know of one on Tueday & 2 on Thursdays, but they might be alil far for you.

Business cards humm yes business cards are cheap and damn handy!
Hand out many. As many as stars in sky.

Dont get fancy. Fancy cards work no better than plain cards.

I was actually back home outside of Baltimore for this one. Turns out pickings were slim, to be blunt. There were only a few decent musicians among them, and they were from out of town as luck would have it.

It happens. There's always next time!

Tuesday - Sheperdstown - the Meclenburg Inn on the main drag right across from the college. I think it's German Street. Starts around 7 or 8 & ends by midnight cuzza the townies. Rather small place, but full of musicians. In fact, you'll only get to play maybe 3 songs if you go there cuz there's so many.

Thursday - The Stray Dawg Saloon & Grill - rt 9, 6 miles from I-81 exit 16W, on a curve, on the right, just past the Food Lion but before the 7-11. Starts at 7 PM. Not a lot of muso's but the ones trhat go are usually pretty good.

Thur - Berkeley Springs has one at Tari's on 522. Buncha ppl, & the # of musicians varies.

Thur - There's one at the Log Cabin in Hancock. Never been there since this one started, but there's a large stage suitable for a band, & the guys running it are very good players.
