WTF??? I'm now Bandless!!

....the singer of my 1st project "PanikAtack" sent us all an e-mail this week saying that he's gonna hafta cancel out on one of our most important, biggest and highest paying venues to date due to other obligations concerning his daytime job.... drummer and bassist just freakin' flipped out and arrived at my house today and picked up al their sh¡t saying sorry to me but give them a call when I find a new singer.... this is about the 3rd time that the singer cancelled a gig on us.... I don't blame them!

The bassist of my other project "ReKon" called me today saying that he's unsure now that he can do all the lead vocals (he's the one that insisted on being the lead vocalist) and he doesn't want to ruin his rep due to his other band playing out.... he feels if he tanks on our first full night gig on the 21st, it's gonna spill over into his other band which has gigs all over the place!

I booked both these bands in one night and now I have to tarnish my name by not only calling the agent that set up that night but also having to call the booking manager of the gigantic venue that my wife and I have been working so hard to get since December! :( ....

I came to all rehearsals.... I perfected each and every tune for both projects.... I never, ever cancelled a gig... even the one in the middle of a blizzard.... I did everything right.... All the members of both bands are in other successful projects so they are still gonna be busy with their other bands while I sit here in shock..stupified... completely bandless....

I feel your pain bro....

Regarding the first part about "saying sorry to me but give them a call when I find a new singer" - Why aren't they interested in helping find a singer too?

A band isn't just one person that does the work. A band pitches in to help whenever they can.

To the second part... I agree there too.

What I've learned is to just work with the most professional people I can find regardless of whether or not I like them personally. Because at the end of the day... they're professional and will remaim that way. If they say they're going to be available to play gigs then they should be.

A true pro will still play the gig and let you know after they've done what they agreed to that they'd rather not play anymore.

Just my 2 cents man. Having been there many times myself. Good luck to you bro!

Damn, Crip! You were in such high hopes, too!

I feel for ya, man.

Rough times, for sure. Keep your hope alive, if you can. It's bound to get better, if my past is any indicator.

I'm going through some tough times, too, between the home stuff & the job stuff & losing our new guitar player & I could almost scream my head off, but I'm not gonna let it rule me just yet. Something's gotta break for us both soon.

I've come to the conclusion that most musicians just generally suck as people!

Personally I never play in more than one band at a time. Conflicts always develop. If anybody wants to play in a band with me it HAS TO BE THEIR TOP PRIORITY. If I go to all the trouble to get a repertoire together, do a recording, and get us gigs, then dammit they're playing the gigs I book. I know you want to play as much as possible, but you should concentrate on ONE band, period. Get that band playing often, get some originals together, record a CD, sell them at your gigs and on the web, make it a BUSINESS and don't screw around with people who aren't committed to YOU. You're too damn good a guitarist to be spreading yourself thin with all these different projects. My opinion that's all...

Hey Crip, Don't freak out and don't write the gig off just yet, stay focused and understand that you wanted to be in 2 bands and unfortunately you have twice the drama, please understand I am not trying to be facetious, between these two bands certainly you can put together a band that can pull it off.

If it this is not possible please refer to JW123 post about the strangest gig I ever did!

Thanx guys... Well I'm already trying to just put my ONE project "PanikAtack" together as I put word out that I'm in need of musicians. One of my loyal fans put me in touch with an awesome bassist that just left another band and is interested and I got hold of a drummer that I've seen play and he's terrific and a plus with him is that he owns one of the most awesome PA's in my area... Just gotta find that damn vocalist. Philbymon, I really feel your pain as I not only got hit with this bad "band" news this week but also got a severe 2 day work cut this week. That's 2/5ths of my paycheck! I honestly don't know how I'm gonna survive all the bills and to top it off, this is the month of my bi-annual car and bike insurance payment.... March and October are alway's a beeyotch! Oh well... just gotta pray my wife still keeps her job as they are also laying tons of people off at her place.... We're just waiting for the ball to drop on her! Times are really getting super tough right now... I'm a smoker also... gotta quit as cigs just went up a dollar more yesterday! $7.65 a pack! FUK ME! :x

I just never understood how people can devote so much time and energy towards a band, then when things really start coming together, just say fuggit and walk away. It boggles the mind.

I feel for you Crip, but with your skillz, you shouldn't have a problem finding a 'total package' band that's already established and playing. It sounds like both your current (former?) bands are nothing but drama-rollercoasters. Screw all them guys. I realize they all ain't bad, but sounds like the majority of them have some "take my toys and going home" issues. From your post, they sound like spoiled children.

Move on, you never know, it might be the best thing that ever happened to you (you could fall into a great opportunity as a "single" musician)!

Good luck!

I like Kramer Guys take on this.

You are like a hot jilted girl with "all the goods". You'll have no trouble finding a new "boyfriend".

Hold out and it will be the best one with lot's of opportunity.

Dude, you don't have to cancel the shows if you think you can grab your rig and do the gig solo.

Sans: Believe it or not, under this rough exterior, I pray to God every freakin' day.... not only when I'm in need of something. Comes from a very strict religious upbringing and 12 years of Catholic School. I DO believe in the power of prayer but also realize it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears in order to get what you pray for to work... I do believe my life has been spared quite a few times for "unknown" reasons and feel that I have not yet obtained the "purpose" of my existence

Andragon: There's no way in hell that this particular venue can be pulled off as a solo act. This particular "club" that I had to cancel is more of a Concert Hall that hold a ton of people... Very big Acts have played there: G&R, Motorhead, Anthrax and recently....Brett Michaels.... So this was a very awesome op for PanikAtack that got completely f'd up...I know our name has now been "blacklisted" from the club!

I know eventually I will get something together but I've put soo many hours into this band with these guys and have sacrificed so much including my family at times just to keep this band running... I ate, drank and slept for this band only to get clusterfukked in the end!
