Alright well I'm an 18-year old bassist from a heavy metal band from Montreal, Canada and have been playing with White Sight for about two years now. The gigs have been cool but we definetely need a major upgrade at the singer position! We're not into screamo or growlers or anything like that, so dont even ask. But if you have great showmanship and great vocal cords then we want you!

I think the name is cool, and hope you guys go far.
It is refreshing to see you young guys have some of the same influences I had, that seems to be the case more and more often these days.
It makes me feel like maybe I'm not so washed up after all 8)

In these days of racial sensitivity, do you think "White Sight" is a good band name? To be honest, the first thing I thought of when I saw the name was "skinhead neo-nazi band"

Don't mean to be the buzzkill, just trying to help...

I didn't see that Kramer, with all do respect lets not be racially paranoid IMHO.
I was in a band in the early 80's called Whiteline I wonder what that was all about (sniff sniff)

 Maybe to be politically correct they could rename the band Snowblind.

I know.. I personally couldn't be offended by anything based on race, religion, etc... I think it's silly and a waste of time.

I was just saying.. it does make that kind of thought jump out. I don't LIKE that it's like that, but I am a realist in that regard, roll with the punches and all...

With zillions of names available, why take the chance?

Hey,

Yeah, I've gotten that remark before. I can assure all of you, we are deffinately not neo-nazis !

And about the return of classic heavy metal.. all I have to say about that is: hell yeah. I'm sick and tired of these modern screamo bands with satanic lyrics giving me a head-ache(ie: kataclysm, slip knot, silverstein). Time to put singers back where they should be: taking singing lessons.

By the way, I might be a young dude, but my favorite animated movie of all time is Heavy Metal(1981)! Some friends of my dad's actually worked on it and the sound track is great!

Rock on Zakk, one of my favorite singers of all time is Ronnie James Dio, but I also like James Labri, Rob Halford (I don't care if he is gay),
Steve Perry, Rick Emmett, and Pat Benetar. :)

My two cents...good band name.

Kramerguy, I respect what you're saying, but c'mon...

White Lion
Whitesnake
Whiteheart
Great White
Black Sabbath
Black Crowes
and my favorite...Blackfoot (a band that actually had two members of Native American descent-but neither being of the Blackfoot tribe!).

Personally, I always took more offense to actual songs...Like "Black Betty".

Okay, I won't get on another BB rant.

Hey, I was just saying that the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the band name was "racist skinhead band", even the OP admitted that he's been told that before.

So, all I was saying was that knowing that tidbit of info, I'd personally never name my band that. I understand there's a ton of other bands like "great white", but for every one of them, there's something else that pops into the mind (like great white whale).

I can't help that people are so unbelievably sensitive to racism. But I also think the current surge of racist-propaganda bands is also no surprise. Look at what's going on in germany right now.. theneo-nazi party actually has won elections and is gaining political power there.

I'm not overly sensitive and don't give a crap about 'perceived racism', really, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware of it.

I really mentioned it only to point out that initial thought, and didn't want this to turn into a argument over racism. There's frankly nothing to argue about.

The Black Crowes is a damn fine example of a band that should have re-thought their name.. and they got lucky.

Relax man, I was just giving you a hard time. Your point is well taken.

BTW, if Rick Rubin would have had his way, the Crowes would have had a different name:

The Kobb Kounty Krows. I'm not making this sh!t up. He wanted to call the band The KKK.
