Just got my new Ric! 2004 4003 Jet-Glo Rickenbacker Bass. I am incredibly pleased to add this to my collection! Came in absolutely perfect, except for some scratchy knobs. Going to clean those and add a Hipshot bridge and a new set of strings and she will be good to go!





Always wanted one of these. I am Happy!

Hey man, real happy for ya!!!..Yeah ,Ive never owned one but I used to drive 2 hrs to a jam JUST to play a cats Rick.. I hated playin the next gig with mine after playin that thing..The action was so LOW with no fret buzz. I could never understand that.. The neck feel was nice and flat, unlike mine. She's a BEAUT !!.. Are ya gonna leave that pickup guard on?.

Cool! No, I think that Pickup guard is just in my way. I've already ordered this replacement part:

And already upgraded that frustrating Rick bridge with the Hipshot replacement seen here:

Definately not as asthetic as the original ric bridge, but way more functional, and offers great low end response.

All of these mods are completely reversible using 1 screwdriver.
Its really a great bass, and for me, "The Holy Grail" of bass guitars. Im proud to have it!

Congrats man. You will love it. Don't be afraid to play around with the tone controls. They are much more responsive than most people think. Be sure and try out the Ric o sound when you get a chance.

I am jealous, koy! Congratulations! One thing I'll add to the above - if you love that Ricky sound, do avoid the use of the compressor cuz that'll just ruinate it & make it sound like something else.

Okay, I didnt say "The Holy Grail." I said "MY Holy Grail" Hehehe
Well, its already way better!. Got the new bridge on there, got rid of the hum, cleaned all the contacts to get rid of the scratch in the switch & knobs, got rid of the bridge pickup cover and added new strings. Went with the GHS Bass Boomers this time, got it intonated, which was a breeze, and it is producing a magnificent tone. Just waiting on the new bridge pickup plates, and I'll be set. Just a side note, why dont all bass manufacturers use twin truss rods?. Jeez, makes life so nice!. Here she is as of today.

I always liked those basses since Chris Squire's sound in the 70's. Nice, Dude.

The Holy Grail of any instrument is what YOU think sounds the best and feels the best in YOUR hands. I like my Fender Precision special bass just fine, haven't played anything that sounds better or feels better, but I'm not you. You might play my bass and it could sound like sh*t. You've got a different touch than me. I might play your new bass and want to drop it on the ground (I played a rick one time that I couldn't stand). That's one of the fun mysteries of music. I"ve always wondered why more blues guitarists don't play telecasters. I love the way a telly sounds, but most blues guitarists prefer strats and gibsons. Enjoy your new bass and play the dung out of it. When I first bought my solid walnut P special I couldn't put it down. People come up to me when I gig and drool over the thing. It's fun playing an axe that you've always wanted. Enjoy it!

Couple of points I might add to that are,
If you ever played my Ric & dropped it on the ground, well, it would be a very bad day for one of us!...LOL
I actually prefer the feel of my Warwick Hybrid to any instrument I have ever played. But its not always about feel. Im a tone guy, and being such, I like to have a very flexible array of different tonal instruments to choose from. While I play the Warwick more than my others for more than half the stuff I do, it is not exclusive. Sometimes I dont want that deep throbbing growl. I might pick up my Fender Jazz sparkle for a nice clean sound, or the Ric if I want a clean throaty sound. If we are doing something acoustic, I have the Tak. I also use a wide variety of different amp settings for different instruments, and sometimes I will even use some effects. Not to mention that I always use different strings on all my instruments for different tones.
Having said all of that, I guess that any of my basses are the "Holy Grail" depending on what song I am playing at the time. Bottom line is this, I just really wanted the Ric, always have. So I guess I called it that because its the one I have been seeking the longest. I guess listening to all those Yes albums in the seventies, and the sounds produced by Mr. Squire, not to mention his style and proficiency, marked my soul forever...

The only other bass that I was ever tempted to buy was a Peavey Cirrus that I played once at a music store. I saw the price and I almost dropped on the ground. It was $2,500! Talk about sticker shock. If I had bought that bass Peavey would have to sponsor me, as I play through a Peavey TNT 115 and we use Peavey for our PA. When you gig do you bring a bunch of different bass guitars with you? Sometimes I see guitar players switch guitars on the fly but I can't remember seeing bass players switch between songs.

I used to switch between my Aria, my Ibenez 5-string, & a Fender P-like Yamaha when I was in one band, depending on the stuff we did. It was useful to have the 3 for the all the weird stuff we did that ranged from acoustic to hardish rock to jazzy stuff. But then again I also switched over to acoustic or electric guitar or mandolin, too. That was the funnest!

Absolutely! Sometimes we will play open, sometimes drop d, and various other tunings. Nice to have a few around.

Beautiful Instrument

I played bass years ago and always wanted one. I had to settle for an Aria Copy. The dual outs for the pickups were cool. I use to run the back pikup into a Marshall 2x12 combo and the front pickup into my Sunn Model T with a 6x10 cab. Man that was an awesome setup at the time. It probably didnt sound as good as I remember but wow that brings back memories.

You should try running 2 amps on that bass if you have a couple available. Really adds a lot of depth to the bass and you can run effects on one and get some neat sound textures.
