Since both are not working I would guess that you plugged them into each other's ports on the box. This would account for seeing lights on the keyboard but it not working.

Did you plug in or unplug them while the computer was still plugged into the wall outlet or power strip? If so, you could have fried the PS 2 ports. PS 2 still has current when plugged in, often even when the computer is turned OFF. I've fried a couple of PS 2 ports that way, and that's how I found out about it. If that's the case, USB is your only hope, once the ports are fried the motherboard is useless, it will have to be replaced and that means reinstall Winderz.
Always unplug or turn off the power strip before unplugging or plugging in keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately they don't tell you that at Best Buy or wherever you buy your computer, often they don't even know it themselves...

Hey Pete,
Thanks for the reply..If the Keyboard PS2 slot was fried , would I still continue to see lights lighting up on the keybaord. Thats the case, indicating current IS STILL flowing through the slot to the keyboard.
Im gonna try my USB mouse on it this morning and see if I can navigate anywhere with just the mouse..
Thanks,
John

I sat this computer down and began telling it my life story. Told it how its maker destroyed my musician life BUT it wasnt ITS fault. AND that Ive re adapted my life now and have come to NEED IT very much and that IM SORRY for previous remarks Id made toward its demise....It apologized too and we cried for 12-13 min. She said , re boot me , Ill be behave now, and Shes now back to normal .I guess sometimes even computers need to VENT..
Thanks to all who responded ...WE appreciate it very much.
Signed John AND my analog wanna be computer

It's cute that she likes being talked too...but when she starts calling you Dave....then beware. Remember 2001 Space Odyssey.

OH YEAH , Ive been "Gone" for a while now. The road musician John died back about 94 during his last actual yr on the road from drinkin. Comin outta rehab,I morphed into another being. I dont EVEN know who this cat is. Somebody stuck a mouse in his hand and said THIS is how we do it now.

. Yeah gang as the last 10 yrs have gone by, life B C (before computers) has become harder to keep in memory.Hard to believe I prospered so well bouncing around the world having the time of my life doing what I was meant to do. WITHOUT computers , cell PHs, I pods, etc...Its all but a faint memory, growing more distant as time passes...Who are WE? Why are WE here?..AM I really here?..Was I ever There?...

... I have to go now..The rubber truck awaits..

A blues player named Bob Smith said it best for me - he told me that computers are really rather stupid. They forget stuff just like ppl do, have little tantrums much like ppl, & in general, "can't be relied on with any reliability"...LOL
I've had some of the weirdest things happen with my own. One time I even got a virus of some sort that started e-mailing things out of my files at random. THAT scared me more than a little, I gotta tell ya. Didn't even know that was POSSIBLE until it started doing it. I trashed that hard drive with a big strong magnet & threw it away before too much damage was done.
I love these things, but at the same time they worry me as we all become more & more dependent on them for so much. It's easy to see how they can flook up your whole world when they get an attitude or something.
