I must be getting old.
Our new President is 47 years old and soon to be 48. I am 50 that makes me almost 3 years older than the President. My wife said to me as we watched the news last night, at least he can dance better than Bush. LOL and who is that old man I see in the mirror every morning? It seems like just yesterday my 28 year old son was in diapers, I was playing in a metal band playing Judas Preist, Motley Crew, UfO, Black Sabbath, Ozzy when Randy was still alive, Van Halen and all these hits we were playing were new.

After those day's we just started playing hits off the radio for the next 20 years and as we just lost our rythm player my wife said why don't you go back to your roots I said hell yeah!
so "here we go around again"

I try not to get caught up in the "age hype" crap, JH. It just gets depressing, while music should be a celebration of some sort, after all, & I don't care how old I get to be, I'll play as long as I can still celebrate my life!

Screw the lil youngsters who think they're the only ones who have the right to play & perform.

I know the feeling.

Weve done shows with kids young enough to be my grandkids. Weird, but we still rock. I guess as long as you feel good about it, enjoy it and have fun its cool.

I can say that when I play music I am way more relaxed than when I was younger. I used to really push the beat and get a little ahead of myself, whereas now I can really lay in the pocket. I guess that in that aspect age and wisdom help. The only song thats been giving me fits lately is the ending to Paradise City and that little funky guitar riff in the middle. Its strangely the only song in our list that I have to concentrate on, the rest are sort of automatic, and some of them are just as fast.

That's an easy one. Never.

But in reality, when I can't move my gear by myself anymore I will retire from performing. But I will rock until I'm stiff and cold.

Oh no Jimmy

Ive been using a preamp instead of my old half stack, does this mean Im getting to old?

On a side note I saw the Stooges on the Rollins Show the other night. Was the guy that died recently on that or did you see it? Ole Iggys getting a little tubby, and whats he like 60-65 these days?

Im not real familiar with those Michigan groups, but they sure did rock out.

I have to agree again with philby.
notice I didn't put 60 in the poll because I plan on rockin at least thru those years.
A couple of years back I had a keyboard player (and close friend) that died of brain cancer the whole time he was sick I kept him on stage with us because it was what he wanted, at times we would set his gear up for him prop him up whatever it took because in his last day's that is where he wanted to be more than anything. He could hardly play anymore much less keep time he would apologize to me at the end of a set and I always told him we want you here as bad as you want to be here don't worry about it just play what you can even if you want to just set there thats perfectly fine with me. Damn I miss him!

As I watch my youth fade to contentment and wisdom I think that is the way I want to spend the last days of my life. hopefully not for some time tho. Like my dear friend Glen Lungaro as long as I have a breath in me WE'RE GONNA ROCK!

I may be young right now, but I've decided I'm going to keep playing music until I can't anymore. You're not too old at any time.

Answer: When you can't see the frets, can't see your kick pedal or can't see the flying boobs in the crowd.

This thread also reminded me of that monk who sang heavy metal stuff in an Italian band. And he was like 70+.

I saw a band of "old guys" playing @ a festival here in Ky last summer, and the bassist had to be 85. He was the best player in the band! They broke out an AC/DC song to wrap up the set and HE WAS ROCKIN!

F**K OLD... don't means sh**t to me!

Two words: Les Paul

There's also a 2007 documentary called "Les Paul: Chasing Sound" that I watched on Netflix about Les Paul that was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend taking an hour or so out of your lives to watch it. I learned alot about him I had never known before.

If you have a netflix online subscription, you can watch it online here:
