Musician Forum - Band Discussion Board - BandMix

I am a musician in the Los Angeles, CA area. I have no clue what to do in terms of marketing and publicity. I don't have a bunch of money to spend and I hear that a lot of companies charge like 2-3K a month for marketing and publicity services, but if anyone knows of a more affordable company or person that can help me please let me know.

Do it yourself.
Get yourself a website (or at least a myspace). Play out at every open mic you can find. After playing, announce that if they wanna hear some more bout you, they might wanna check out your website. You said you don't have that much to start with, so I'm not gonna talk bout merch (plus it's more of a band thing).
LA is a huge world. Talk to everyone where you play. It's worth taking numbers and emails sometimes.

Hey. So I was doing a little research because I am also looking for a place. I found a few (like a&r select and lafamos) and i called lafamos. I thought they were really cool. They seemed like they were on my level, like indie. They understood that i'm just starting out and that's what they mainly work with. You should check them out, see what you think.
