Hey Gang,

Ive been seachin for a week now tryin to find amp modeling and FX VST plug ins to use but none Ive tried are compatible with Adobe. SOOO, I borrow a tiny Gorilla amp and just using the crunch and a touch of verb .I miked the amp with a 57. Its been a while since Ive played heavier stuff on gtr and just wanted to get opinions on this setting. There are 2 Exps. One is Raw , the other is Compressed a bit. Hell, Ive listened to them too much at this point to hear much of a diff. ..They are VERY short so those with some time, please tell me which has the best over all feel and tone. AND, feel free to offer any suggestions to change either.

Thanks,
John

COMP sounded like it was amplified and had a tiny bit of delay. Had to listen a few times. There's lil to no difference to be honest.

Thanks,

Obviously it sounds good. Ofcourse, personally, I'd use way more distortion, but that's my metal addiction speaking 8)

Thanks for listenin!!! Ive NEVER owned anything much in the way of GTR FX..Ive owned a BIG MUFF in 76 and a Tube Screamer (early 80's model) and that about it.. Everyone I play with has the newer effects units but their always busy with them. Im gonna put out a tune much heavier than the love song stuff you guys are used to hearin from me..

Hi KIDD the first cut works better for me, it has almost an AC/DC feel to it

you should expand it and put some lyrics, it sounds good but left me angry for more.

Looking for the final cut.

The second one brought out the guitar a little in front of the mix. Made it stand out a little. If you up the ratio it should bring it out even more, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey lalong,

Yeah, thanks for the tip.I did just that but had to bring the vol level down a bit but its crunchier (is that a word? ) NOW, Im gonna go for "Crunchest".This has shocked me actually.I never thought this lil amp would reproduced this well.Yeah , Unless I could HEAR the FX while Im playin by way of routing the VST though a Rec input Buss, I honestly dont think I could "Play" dry gtr then effect it later in edit mode..I know theres a way to do it but I dont think it can be done on MY rinkydink set up..

In Audacity you can do normalize, hi and low pass filter, compression, add reverb, echo, phasing, wah wah. The only thing I haven’t found is added distortion. Although for free, it’s not a bad deal for some after processing. Downside is the interface, it’s just straight out waveform editing.

I would like to thank the person if I can find the thread again. But someone suggested Reaper, also free download, with 30 day free trial. It has add in real time effects, compression eq etc. Different interface and layout, it’s arranged just like traditional mixing board. So makes it a lot quicker to get familiar if you’re used to the traditional mixing setup. And comes with lot's of added synth, eq, patch plugins included.

Oh and the guitar sounds really good, clean no fumbles, sounds like you‘re a guitar player to me. Certainly a viable sound.

Sounds like you found what'chur lookin' for John! Good sound! (both) I couldnt tell a diff, course I listen thru my PC speakers (blast-mephy, I know) I cant wait till the final cut too!! Is that an orig, and are you going to put vocals on it? Sounds good.

Hey Kidd, I thought they both sounded good. The second one had a fuller fatter sound. I would use that one for a single rhythm part, but if you were going to double the part and do a left/right pan I'd go with the first one. I find if you have a lot of parts on a track, that making them all sound BIG just ends up mushing things up. I love all kinds of distortion, and find that having lots of different stomp boxes is the way to go...Hell, when I was 13 I ordered a catalog fuzz face copy before I even had an amp, and proceeded to blow the hell out of the folks RCA console color tv/hifi  "You see, this is why we can't have nice things"!!!

I like John. Sounds good to me. The second cut prounounced the highs a little better. Of course not knowing the settings I prolly should not comment BUT, You might scoop the mids a bit. It will bring the ring out on the highs without the compression.

Hey Boys ,
Thanks much for the advice and critique. Yeah , DAJAX when I went to pick up that lil amp from Rick , I was honestly thinkin about you and your "Champ", wondering if I would be able to get that kinda sound outta this newer tiny amp. Thats TOO FUNNY about how we used to destroy items of home entertainment centers.Jesus.. Cuttin up lamp cords for jumpers, riggin pwr amps and blowin recievers, etc. I can just see you in 67- 68 hookin up to that monster size console then seeing a bit of smoke then everything going dead. The oldman comes in and raises T total HELL.No TV tonite.. .Hell, back then none of that stuff had I/O's, ya had to direct wire it . ..Yeah , SANS, I believe your right on the $$$ with droppin some of the mids..I dropped a teeny bit of 1K and it warmed up. FRETWORK, Now that ya mention it , it does sound AC DCish. Actually , that was just a test track.I didnt really even have a tune in mind.. .I just wanted to play open chords to see what it would sound like...ZXYZ, I would like to write something in this genre.Im not very good at it.Drummed all my life to this genre BUT, my original stuffs too mushy. It would prolly turn out to be ballad rock of the 80's (DONT HIT/KILL ME  )...BUT, Im gonna try. ive tried 6-7 more plug ins since this post , and NONE of them work, SOOO, Im gonna stick with this lil amp.

Thanks again boys,
John

Yep, their Steve, and Edie records never sounded right again after an afternoon of the "Satisfaction" riff played over, and over!

Ahh the ole dayz, when those huge RCA console TV/Stereo things were nuthin but vacuum tubes :D . John- Please do write an 80's rock ballad! I love 'em!! (at least some of 'em). I like the riff you were playing. Had kind of a 'Journey' feel to it. Were you playing all the instruments on those clips?
