My favorite of your uploaded recordings (and top 3 of Bandmix recordings lol). Let's see. Strong delay on the vocals. Maybe a bit too strong to make out the lyrics. To be honest, I think it would go better with a higher vocal.

Thanks Andragon! I appreciate it!! Echo too high. Yeah. I was wondering about that. Also my singing sucks. well.. nothing we can do about that, lol.
I was just wondering about leaving the song alone or try to spruce it up a bit with sum vox?
Thanks for the kudos and input. :D :D :D

Hey Man,

I like the song and motif surrounding it.I couldnt really make out the vocals even though they were layin on top of the music.Your as bad as me when it comes to heavy use of FX . Trouble is , they dont mix well with the musc after it goes down to stereo.Your vocal seemed be a seperate part of what was going on.They both didnt seem to be sharing the same sonic space. Their EQs were too seperate.Ive read some good tutiorials on mixing vocals that forced me to get rid of my old way of thinking. I still catch myself going back to my old ways, but I cant help it.You tend to mix , what you wanna hear , and not whats best for each stage of the mixing process..THATS where you can "end up" with too comp/exp , reverb, flanger , chorus , delay..YOU know what Im talkin about.(It takes one to know one  ) Anyway, try a mix with the vocals blending more with the over all fequency of the music as a whole. They can still still on top of the mix as they should, but they should be a part of the music's over all EQ..

Hope that makes some sense,
John

Hey John,
Thanks. I think I know what you're talking about. I'm new to digital mastering, (or the final mix, whichever it's called) vs the old multitrack analog stuff. There's phase analysis, spectrum this-n-that, and multi-band compressors etc. I may be over-doing it or over-complicating things. Once (if) I can get 'em figured out, maybe things 'll improve (sonically). Thanks for the input. I'll see If i can do a re-mix soon.
Then I'll re-post and ask you-all "better or worse?" lol-like an eye-Dr. This forum is great for self-improvement!!
Thanx!
-Steve

def better.

Capt. Scott-
Well, I havent really done anything to it yet. Are you saying that it's better with some kind of vocals rather than just being an instrumental?
Thanx for the input.

John,
I dont know anything about DirectX.. but fire away.. I'll try..
Oh- It's Adobe Audition 2.0 (multitrack program) not Cool Edit. I believe they are similar (?) Both by Adobe, I believe, right?

First off, I didnt wanna impose on this thread cause it should remain on topic about the crtiquing of your tune.I just wanted to see if you could help me get to the bottom of some things about using FX .I can either start a new thread OR we can E mail..I searched the net looking for info on Cool Edit but all the messageboards date back to 2004 or so. No one on my local board can help me cause all the programs handle DX and VST plug ins differently..NOW, let me ask this right off the bat..I LIKE the gtr FX you use..Are you getting those straight from Adobe Aud.???...
I HAVE adobe 1.5 BUT... I dont have a manual for it , thats why I continue to use Cool Edit. YES , they are similar BUT, they differ in the ways they act and accept other 3 party programs. ANYWAY, Ill let that be the last question I ask on this thread.Let me know what you'd rather do .E mail , or I will start a new thread. I wont take long , just some key questions about your FX parameters..

Thanks,
John

I dont care about continuing this thread about anything :D After I re-edit the song, it'll keep popping up and everybody maybe will keep listening to it  Apparently its the only one that I've written thats worth a sh*t. lol.
OK, (and I hate to keep interjecting "lol" into all my posts, but its some sort of a spastic habit, maybe there's a pill I could take.. ) My gfx are all pre- adobe- pc. I use very little pc stuff on the guitar. Its a modulated old ibenez dig.delay, a 'redbox' and a really old mxr graphic eq. I do add some mastering reverb and normalize to the final stuff.. I should probly answer this tomorrow when it's pre- "toddy-time" - hah - I'm a little lit right now. ( at least I didnt say lol) .. Oh and the guitar has a circuit I built based off of 2 mxr "distortion +" s in the guit. Modified a bit .heh.

Oh- but , and I mean<edit>(added later-that is) I do like to use the 'pitch shifter on one of the 2 stereo channels at -11 and then add the 'stereo expander' on some of the tracks. I think some of them are 3d party plug-ins. Not sure how adobe/pc handles them tho.. dont probly think that was much help(?)
<edit> is that all the stuff I've been posting is from the 80s-90s 8-track except for the vox I just added to the xyz song (which isnt very good) and the new song -what is it.... ? cant remember but its the 1st or second upload, which I did exclusively on audition. So, I gotta lot to learn.
<edit3> I liked audition 1.5 reaaly better than 2.0. It just may have been the gui colors of sumptn but they didnt offer it anymore when I got the 2.0.
(eveybody thinks out-loud '-this guy doesnt have a fckin clue what he's doing--) lol - oops i said lol..

OK , Man , heres the first question of the nite TUE 11:30 PM EDT.

Look down your effects list in edit mode..Does it say: "Enable Direct X effects" OR just Direct X effects?.. IF , it says Direct X effects, click on that and tell me if anything is in there..IF nothing comes up with that click, then go to the bottom where it says "refresh effects list" and click that and tell me if anything shows up there.Next, Im gonna ask ya to go to a specific folder in Adobe..It wont take long.Anyway, let me know these things first..Thanks for helpin man, I have nobody...You helpin another oldtimer catch up to 2008.

John
