I thought this might make a good topic and poll?

How is it with you? Do you go to sleep at night worrying that hundreds of bands are using your songs to play gigs after posting them online and not giving any credit? Or is what you do nothing really that important to you in as much that people can take from it what they want? I ask because although its a different field, (Work) I was pretty shocked what some people actually do.


I was told quite curtly once. "Design is completely free!" Yeah right bloody cheek! (In another field) Which in essence means it was stolen or someone was stupid enough to hand something over in vane hope. For me? I'd never publish a song in entirety online quite frankly. Though I have in the past. It's taking me hours and hours to put what I have together so far.

I know my music isn't brilliant I know it isn't.

So then how does this relate to your music and how you feel?

Can I qualify this by saying that nothing is new in music and that all we do is nick bits off tracks that we like and incorporate them into our own stuff. It's more about the arrangement and style.

I'm kinda cool with it to a point and there is nothing that you can do about it at all. No one listens to the style that I want to play anymore in any case

There will ALWAYS be new music. I protect myself therefore I'm not worried.

I always wear finger condoms when I type on the net. I would not want to get venerable warts or have one of my babies (my songs) get goneawaya. I've never gotten sipless, either, cuz I make sure I keep lots of drinks handy. I feel perfectly safe from STD's (Stolen Tune Diseases), even the dreaded HIV (Heard In Virtuality).

I've had my shots (had a few of them last night at the open mic) & now that I'm copyrighted I have no real concerns about this topic at all.

I figure that if my stuff is good enough to steal, it's good enough for me to wait until you make a lot of money with it, then I'll just sue yer entire collection of worldly goods out from under you.

And if I ever write a new song that sounds like some other song I've heard - then I'll re-write it until it sounds different.
Who needs to copy other people when it's so easy to come up with new stuff?
If you can't come up with new stuff on your own - then go out and learn 10 new chords - you'll soon enough be writing new stuff . . .

Oh dear.................. is how I'll answer that at first.

There is also of course the problem of music theft as regards people copying Cd's is there not?

It was just a general question really. I can see it was badly placed with hindsight, And yes I know 10 chords thanks and can play them on various instruments from string to wind.

I always permit people to download my stuff. Go ahead and try to play it, if you think you can. If you're so brain dead that you can't write your own stuff you won't be around long anyway. Music is not for sprinters, it's for the marathon man.

I don't care about the possible lost money. Can always go to court for that later.
I care about credit. If theres a bunch of copies floating around and they arent set up so people know who the band is or who wrote it... that bugs me.

My question was general. I rarely play anybody else's music because I figure that if I am not good enough to have people like what I write then there is no point is there.

Still you know you've hit a CHORD when there are some personal replies don't you.

Obviously some life in this thread yet isn't there and wise people don't stick their heads in the sand thinking no one else can do what they do correct.

And as far as the other argument goes, "people will forever be stealing styles and pieces of the puzzle they like like and/or admire." It's human nature to emulate that as well.

10%, Yes 10% is the most anyone including myself can take in and remember for the most part, the rest is lost. That's just about a fact too.

I'm not in a tournament with you guys I was just asking a question about how you felt about these things?

Frankly I should learn to keep my trap shut because people (Generally) DO NOT read, only take from it which they find most familiar
