It matters not if they make it legal or not, as long as the insurance co's have a death-grip on our right to work, if we're users. The only ones who will be able to work are the self-employed.
It would STILL be outlawed by our individual financial obligations.

Here's my radical solution: LEGALIZE ALL DRUGS. PERIOD. Anyone arrested for ANY reason should be immediately drug tested. If they have a high level of any drug that is currently illegal or alcohol, then upon a possible conviction whatever sentence they would have received is doubled with no chance for parole. There's millions of people who DO NOT COMMIT CRIMES who use marijuana or other drugs or alcohol. If you are a responsible individual and your drug use does not affect any other individual, then in my opinion you ARE NOT a criminal. Legislating against morality does not work. We tried that during Prohibition. The "war" on drugs will NEVER succeed. What we need to do is legalize all drugs, take the tax money which will be colloected on the sale of drugs (untold billions of dollars), invest that money in drug rehab programs AND a massive advertising campaign against the use of drugs. Take very young children in school and bring them to rehabilitation hospitals and SHOW them what drugs can do to you. Bring them once a year, EVERY year they are in grade school. If you commit a crime on drugs then your sentence is doubled, no parole. If you're arrested for DUI you automatically lose your driver's license FOR LIFE (first offense). The second offense for DUI you're put in jail for TEN YEARS NO PAROLE, third offense you're put away for life NO PAROLE. Our legal system HAS TO ONLY PUT CRIMINALS AWAY. People who are responsible and DO NOT COMMIT CRIMES SHOULD NEVER BE PUT IN JAIL PERIOD. I do not use any illegal drugs, never have, never will. I do not condone the use of drugs, however I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER ASSERT ANY MORAL JUDGEMENT ON ANYBODY WHO IS NOT A CRIMINAL. Our legal system is an abomination which should be completely changed. When filthy rich people can get off because they can hire the best lawyers (O.J. was able to the first time he killed someone but not as filthy rich the second time he committed a crime) and some poor slob has NO chance of getting off, then it's time to CHANGE THE SYSTEM. Sorry to digress but I get pissed off easily when it comes to politics...

Well, if you're in an traffic accident in some states, like VA, they DO immediately test you for drugs. Problem is, they test to see if you've been under the influence of marijuana within the last 30 days or so, & NOT whether you're under the influence at the time of the accident. Same thing happens in many states, like my own, for instance, if you are hurt on the job. If you test positive, then you get no Worker's Compensation, no matter who or what caused the injury.
A piss test doesn't say anything about your present state of sobriety, but the insurance co's & the gov't don't care. They just want the right to deny you justice & even treatment, if they can get away with it, using any excuse they can find.

AMEN!
THey really should just apply the alcohol laws to pot. If you drive under the influence, then yer busted. If you smoked up two days ago and are sober, then you broke no laws.
Insurance companies are part of the problem as well. When we put healthcare and a person's well-being into the hands of capitalists, we pretty much screwed ourselves. NO public services should be "for profit" in my opinion.

If you"re speeding or driving wrecklessly or get into an accident that's your fault then by all means a drug test is a GOOD THING. And whatever fine or sentence you would have got sober IS DOUBLED. Our penal system has to be just that, a DAMN PENAL SYSTEM. Dangerous drivers should not be allowed to drive, especially if they're high on something. If you have a little marijuana in your system and YOU'VE COMMITTED A CRIME THEN YOU SHOULD GET THE DAMN PENALTY. If you have marijuana in your system and you've done nothing wrong then you shouldn't receive any penalty. Make all drugs legal. IF YOU DO THE CRIME THEN YOU DO THE TIME. IF YOU DO THE CRIME HIGH ON SOMETHING THEN YOU DO DOUBLE THE TIME, CAPICHE? We have to STOP legislating morality and START putting criminals away, no more B.S., no fancy lawyers getting criminals off the hook, nobody pays their way to freedom. Our system absolutely needs to be a BLIND JUSTICE SYSTEM. What we have now is a joke, plain and simple. If only I could be dictator for a month I'd straighten this mess out pronto. Later...

Bob, the problem is that, although the effects aren't being effective any longer, the THC stays in one's system for 30 days or more in the fat cells, & is slowly released through urine & sweat. Therefore, being tested by the usual routes - urinalysis & the dreaded "hair test," have no business being used to see if you're
currently under the influence. Only a blood test can provide that info, & it's not cheap at this time, or so I'm told. I haven't researched this cost, yet.
A person can be charged with being under the influence when nothing could be farther from the truth.
Do take that into consideration when you become emporer of the world.

If you"re driving dangerously then it's almost irrelevant whether you're under the influence or not. If you get pulled over and the arresting officer smells pot smoke or you've got weed on you AND you've got a certain level of it in your system, then I say boo-hoo. If you're driving dangerously you're a danger to yourself, any passengers with you, pedestrians, other vehicles, as well as a danger to property. I understand that you're going to have a certain level in your system if you use it, but there should be some test level to be determined (I'm not up on the science of drug testing) that would indicate you should not be driving. Under that level (and I don't know what that level should be) and you get the usual penalty, over that level and your penalty is doubled. If it means developing a new on-the-spot test that works proof positive then let's fund the development. Once all drugs are legalized let's all get together and determine which levels of a particular drug would impair your driving, and use that as a guide, just as we have guidelines for alcohol testing. Again I say it's just PLAIN STUPID that alcohol is perfectly legal and pot is illegal. To me it's PLAIN STUPID that any drugs are illegal. We're not winning the "war" on drugs. Making them legal would do a lot of good things in my opinion. The hemp plant can also be used for a lot of other good things, it burns hot and can be used to heat our homes, it can be used in making clothing, it can be used in the medical industry. Collecting the mega-billions in taxes would lower and perhaps eliminate our budget deficit. It would also practically do away with drug gangs and limit the extreme violence associated with buying and selling drugs. It would free up thousands of police personel to help patrol our streets. Criminal behavior should be prosecuted, plain and simple. People who commit crimes need to be put away, not recreational drug or alcohol users. I hear stories about drug related crimes and policemen being killed that SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. Look at all the policemen who were killed during Prohibition. I could go on and on but bottom line is our criminal justice system is in need of some radical reform, just as our federal government is in need of radical reform. Obama and McCain are both a joke to me, they say nothing but platitudes. Kind of makes me sick thinking about all this crap. Later...

. . . marijuana should not be illegal. It should not be used by children, just as tobacco or alcohol, but it should not be Federally regulated ! It should be a perscribable solution in the medical field. But not as a controlled substance.
Four years ago (July 2004), I was diagnosed with Stage three colon cancer. This killer is no stranger in my Family. My Maternal-Grandmother, my Mother and my next to oldest Brother all succombed to this cancer. All of them lost their lives at forty-nine years of age. Mom's Brother, an Uncle of mine died at thirty-eight from colon cancer. I am a lucky surivor . . . after six months of chemotheropy. And that is the real test. Even if you survive the cancer, you still have to endure the chemo. If it had not been for Marijuana, I may have parished as well. When I started chemo . . . the staff at my oncologists' office told my Wife and I that 75 % of the time, the cancer does not kill the patient. Most cancer patients who do not survive die from malnutritian. Because it is so hard to have an appitite when you can not taste anything and your tounge and mouth always feel like it has been burned by hot pizza. I am a firm believer that my Marijuana use is what saved my life.
I am 6'4" and weigh in at 190 lbs. at the moment. After my six months of chemotheropy, I weighed in at 147 lbs. and most folks would tell you, they didn't think I was going to make it. I showed up at the 2005 Daytona 500, and all my Racing Brothers figured it would be the last time that they would see me, in this world. I returned to Daytona this past February (first time since 2005), all my Brothers could not believe how healthy I am. I take pride in my health, not to extemes, I gave up tobacco eight years ago (after 25 years of Camel non-filters), I eat right, take Centrum Silver, exercise somewhat, work everyday (and am in high demand for my stone work tile setting drywalling painting and even auto mechanic abillity and smoke marijuana a little. But, . . . it does not control my life or my lifestyle. My Wife of twenty-seven years has never smoked marijuana or tobacco and rarely consumed alcohol. I do not drink alcohol, except at NASCAR races and Holidays. Then I only consume a little Makers Mark Bourbon ( the very best). I sometimes have a hard time fitting in a little jam session, my life is so full of things to do ?

Good for you, Rob! I quite agree with both you & Bob, actually, & nearly evetryone else here.
Doesn't it make you sick (metaphorically) to think that, if you had been caught with the "evil weed" during your recuperation, that not only could you have been jailed, but KILLED by our gov't's lack of compassion concerning this issue?
