How do you pull off these recordings? Programmed synth or real people?(I honestly can't tell anymore

Great playin' but did you use a pick? (much of Mark's tone is attributed to his pickless style.)
I enjoyed listening to it, none the less. That tune is one of my favorites. There's a YouTube video of it being performed with a full orchestra! I believe it was an old concert at Albert Hall, but I could be mistaken. Worth checking out if you can find it.
