Found a closeout deal on Takamine EG530SSC Acoustic. Looks pretty good. Spruce top Solid back Rosette fretboard, $399.00
Anyone have anything to say about this guitar. I want to buy a decent acoustic, and Im looking for the best bang for the buck. Anyone?

I'm not crazy about the sound or playing of em myself, but it depends on personal taste I suppose.
I'd rather have a Yamaha than anything else I've played. that includes Taylor as well.

+1 on the Yamaha. I have a Yamaha and an Ovation. The Ovation sounds a little better, but the Yamaha feels better to play. It doesn't have that bowl shape.

Mine is a Takamine, higher end model though, EGS330SC lists in the $800 range. Cedar top, great neck, no fret dots and good electronics. I love it, Takamine is one of the guitars I always check out, I was almost convinced on a blue one with electronics when I found my Peavey Patriot, grabbed it instead (GAS strikes again) and the Takamine was gone once I got the Peavey out of lay away. When I bought this one I was also looking at a pretty nice Ovation, passed it up for the Takamine.

Play it, listen to it. If you like, walk away with it. That's the only way you know though. You have to play it for the next few years, nobody can decide if you like it but you. Just make sure it's a solid top, not laminated. That goes for any brand, not just Takamine, they all make laminated el cheapos. I've played 'em, the sound is just not there.

I have a Tak, & I like it a bunch. It's a little old, at this point, but it still sounds good.

Like they said, Koy, play it & decide for yourself. If it's an o/l deal, make sure you can return it if you don't like it for ANY REASON.

Guy I know bought a Taylor higher end axe through the catalogue...when it arrived it had a perfect book-page back...knots on both sides.

He doesn't care, though. He's got a frikken Taylor that cost him $2500 that he can brag about, & that's all he wanted. I'd have sent it back so fast the check would rebound back to me before they could say a word.

Right! I want to hand pick my instruments. When you go mail order, you are kinda stuck with what you get. I went to GC yesterday and tried out a few before getting abandoned by my salesperson. I think from now on GC is just going to be a place to go to see what I like. The guy didnt take me serious, although I went with money in pocket, planning to leave with a guitar. I did leave, but empty handed..I have several guitars so Im not going to be in a hurry to find my acoustic. When the time is right, it will find me! I kinda liked the Yamaha and breedlove that I tried. They seemed to fit well. Pretty sure I am looking for a cutaway dreadnaught style, so I can wait. It will find me.

I've got a 12-string Takamine, I like it just fine but the neck is a little wide for my little hand. I've also got a 1976 Martin D-28 that I never play; my main guitar is a $300 Chinese Ibanez acoustic. It's amazing the quality and value of the guitars being made overseas.
