This site claims to 'connect local musicians' for free, but how am I supposed to contact them without subscribing or paying the fee? Grrr....

Relax. You may still connect, if someone who pays finds your profile worthwhile. Note the difference between "connect" & "contact."

Otherwise, I'm sure that if you asked you could get your money back.
