Just laid down a live acoustic and vocal, and added a second acoustic. Might just add the rest tonight. This is more like the feel of the bluegrass groove of Derringer's original. I like Johnny Winter's ballad version too, but I find the lyrics depressing enough without slowing it down. And I always like to bury my iffy vocals under lots of instruments

Good job - and I like your voice too. I'm the same way about singing, I bury that sh*t in the mix. But many people have said they like my voice. You can't explain what people will like. Carry on.

Yep I hear you Jimmy...People tell me I'm more self conscience about my singing than I need to be, but I could never do a live vocal in front of an audience

Hell yes you could Dajax. The first time I spoke in public I thought I couldnt. I did. The first time I fought in public I thought I couldnt. I did.
The first time I played my guitar in public I was scared as a school girl.
I played. You did a good job brother if you want you can do it live as well.

As usual Sans is right on. I don't care for my voice but it doesn't stop me from using it live. The emotional impact of your voice can trump the technical aspects of your singing. But you have to feel what you're singing. Now get out there and do it!
